Best of luck enforcing it, I love Japan but it’s like talking to a brick wall when it comes to war time atrocities.

If they started paying now, they would get innandated with demands, they should have dealt with this before.

Japan, to my knowledge, has never dealt with it’s WWII history, as far as I have heard it is mostly not talked about.

I believe they would be a healthier nation if they did.

They would be a healthier nation if they dropped the narration that your boss somehow owns your life. I think most of their issues (including not dealing with their WWII history) comes from this.

I know too little about Japanese culture to have a good understanding of that example, but at first glance, yes, that seems to make some sense.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

A South Korean court has ordered Japan to compensate a group of women who were forced to work in military brothels during World War Two.

They filed a lawsuit in 2016 but Seoul Central District Court dismissed it five years later, citing sovereign immunity.

In a statement the court said it recognises South Korea’s jurisdiction over the Japanese government because the women lived in the country and sought compensation for acts deemed “unlawful”.

It’s estimated that more than 200,000 women and girls were forced into prostitution to serve Japanese soldiers in World War Two.

Japan’s Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa called the ruling “extremely regrettable and absolutely unacceptable”.

“Japan once again strongly urges the Republic of Korea to immediately take appropriate measures to remedy the status of its breaches of international law,” she said.

The original article contains 258 words, the summary contains 133 words. Saved 48%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

International laws favor colonizers over victims? What a shock.
