Your description of FFVI is disgustingly accurate. I hate and love you now.
Not mine, I just found it online. But yes, it is disgustingly accurate XD
Yep, that one in particular is… perfecto, mwah!
oh shit I didn’t know about Kuja https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuja_(Final_Fantasy)
Love it! Currently playing FF7 now. The mommy issues are real.
The original or the remake? I think the original is more solid overall, but the remake has some fun stuff.
Did you know in the original, you can get more than one support effect on a spell if you have more than one copy? I only learned this like last year, despite playing the game when it was new. So you can do like
[ Ultima + MP Absorb ] [ Ultima + HP Absorb ] [ Ultima + Quad Magic ] in your armor, and when you cast ultima it’ll Absorb HP, MP, and cast four times.
Also that will freeze the game on the 2nd to last boss.
The original. I might get the remake in a couple years when all the chapters are out and on sale in a bundle, because the graphics look superb.
And I did not know that, thanks! I’m still on disc 2.
This is gold!
The last final fantasy I played was XII, are any of the ones after that worth playing?
I couldn’t get into XV myself.
But XIV… if you can get through the first 50 levels, it is truly incredibly. I get that is a huge ask. And skipping it is a bad idea, because it really builds the setting and story. Possibly watching a youtube video of, like, all the cut scenes in order maybe.
But seriously, the end of Shadowbringers (the third expansion) is my favorite end to a video game I’ve played, the music is awesome (particularly in Shadowbringers and Endwalker, though I got to the end fight for Heavensward and had to just stop and listen to the music before I queued for the final battle as well).
And more importantly, there is just a ton to do in the game. You don’t run out of things. You might get bored of leveling all 33 jobs on a single toon, so you can take breaks to gamble at a giant mini-game casino (complete with chocobo racing, card tournaments, jump puzzles, a game where you ride in an airplane-on-a-track ride and shoot targets, and having your minions fight on a small battlefield, for example), make outfits (glam is the real end-game), fight and level in separate instanced battle areas, PVP (only if you want), set up your own private island and farm, and I can’t even think of what else. There is no FOMO because there’s always more available to do, you just pick what you feel like doing at the time.
Sorry, I just have a ton of fun with this game, and having come from WoW back at the end of Shadowlands, it feels like it succeeds at everything WoW failed at (you don’t want to do Mythic Dungeons? Well I guess fuck off until the next patch).
So yeah, I’d recommend XIV, I guess. If you can get through the first 50 levels (which I maintain are still better than WoW).
- 13 had a good story, but mind numbingly linear
- 13-2 is in my top 3 favorite FF games. Secret endings, multiple paths to take, continues the good story of 13
- 13-3 random fun curb stomping but a giant fetch quest
- 14 didn’t play
- 15 didnt think I’d like it (a final fantasy with cars and cell phones?!) but man it grew on me and has one of the best villains in an FF game ever
- 16 is so not a FF game. The barely put any references in to other FF games until the DLC which is only available end game. Still an okay game and man they break the f-bomb counter. Also “sex? In my Final Fantasy?” Yes
Some people argue XIV is the best FF. It’s a little unfair because it gets hundreds of hours to develop it’s story but man Endbringers is fucking incredible. XVI feels like knock off GoT. XIII is really good, except it feels like the tutorial takes a third of the game and you also have to read the codex to understand what’s going on and that’s like adding a book to your 50 hour game. XV is really cool but very different from the rest of the series, it’s probably the most approachable of the 4 (although it does have a huge expanded lore if you really want to get into it)
In short: XV yes, XIV yes if you’re willing to sign up for an MMO, XIII maybe, XVI not unless you like GoT type stuff
Depends what you want out of a game. I loved XIII, XV and XVI but for different reasons. if you go into any of them expecting old-school FF gameplay you’ll be disappointed, but if you want decent modern JRPGs with fairly confusing stories you might find something you’ll like.
None of the old-school fans like the new games but the series has always been about trying new things.
Ok, now, try to do this for each Kingdom Hearts game.
Hot take… Final Fantacy fans can polish my balls
