Edit: I removed the HELP and extra question mark from the end since I’ve now left it be outside and don’t need a advice. I thought the cross post would include the body text from the first post on !cat@lemmy.world so I guess I accidentally left out all the other pictures and additional info, oops

It’s a cat, cat often go outside. Have you any reason to think it’s lost?

A kitten outside in an apartment complex just seems concerning to me 😅 I’ve never had a cat though, and none of my friends keep outdoor cats so I don’t really know what’s normal

I live right next to the highway and there aren’t many neighborhoods around here, so sometimes I see feral cats at night, but never cats that seem happy to interact with people but also want to hide under cars and find shelter

I tried to take it inside so I could figure out what to do but the crinkly noise from the seal on the door scared it and it ran all the way back to the ground floor 😅

Our cat could go out for days (we live in Paris, France) and she lived to 21 ;)

Ask your neighbors (later this morning), you can also put a note on the bulletin board if there is one, or scotch it somewhere near the entrance of the building with a picture of the cat, letting know you found it with your phone number?

But how do you find it again if no one replies?

There’s no bulitin but I could ask aparement management to send out an email when they open in the morning

I live in an apartment complex and my neighbours all let their cats out. The road is a “Spielstraße” and our local wildlife doesn’t eat cats.

Yeah, it just felt weird cause the outside of my complex is just parking lot and speed bumps, it kept getting spooked by cars going by. I see feral cats here but that’s it

The area around my apartment is highway and a business park, which is also mostly parking lots lol 😅. It’s kind of the theme in a lot of America

But it seems like it was outside intentionally, someone pointed out that the collar looked like a flea collar which made me more confident so I left it be, hopefully it finds its way back to the right door to go home in the morning

While I don’t approve of it, outdoor and indoor/outdoor cats are a thing. With what looks to be a newish flea collar on, in what looks to be good health, this is likely just a kitty out with “permission”.

If you’re worried about its safety, bring it in until you can find its humans later. Otherwise, just give it pats and go about your business

Ahh, I didn’t realize it was a flea collar but I looked up pictures and there are some that look similar, that makes me feel much more confident that it’s supposed to be outside

      Thank you!

Some cats refuse to wear collars or it irritates their skin so owners don’t make them. Some owners often just don’t choose to. Don’t worry, kitty is most likely out by themselves

It does have a collar. It sounds like I should just leave it? I’m surprised to see a kitten out at night in my apartment complex, that doesn’t see like the kind of thing most people do in my area but I don’t really know 🥲

Okay, thank you for the advice 🥹 I just get anxious easily and don’t wanna abandon it if it might not have a home to return to

There’s nothing outside in my complex other than a brightly lit parking lot and a highway, so I’m not used to seeing any outside cats here that aren’t feral, nevermind a kitten

Its 3am, so id have to wait, I’m nocturnal due to a sleep disorder so I don’t really know many of my neighbors…

I know a person in the building where I found it, but not really anyone else
