I kind of wonder why Valve are so coy about the number of Decks sold.
You’d think they’d be popping off about it nonstop.

You see, we are used to that kind of news because investors. Valve is private AFAIK so they don’t need to specifically boast to the public to raise value.

Nah, anyone who buys this kind of tech regularly is used to this kind of thing. You liked it enough to buy it, so just enjoy it without regret and don’t worry about what other people have.

The alternative is basically always being pissed off about your consumer electronics purchases, which is an emotionally stunted way to go through life. Which also explains why internet forums are filled with miserable people making such posts.

Yup, I’ve got my original 512 lcd since May last year. I’m going to try to get the special edition. I want that amazing looking case. The old one can go to my gaming daughter.

Haven’t they been dropping the price of the existing model over the past few months?

Can’t feel too angry if they still got a good deal.

I pre ordered it, waited like 8 months, the first delivery got stolen (fuck you fedex) and I would do it again at full price without a doubt. I fucking love that thing.

I’m fine if they make the part available for diy. I could see doing it at the same time as a full transparent shell swap. I would like to see a nicer full length nvme rear shell and adapter vs what is currently out there before committing though.

Edit: sounds like it’s not compatible…

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Valve has sold “multiple millions” of its Steam Deck handheld gaming PCs, Valve designers Lawrence Yang and Pierre-Loup Griffais tell The Verge.

Given that it just announced a new revision with an OLED screen, the company is probably set to sell a lot more.

The Steam Deck has been a hit for Valve right from its launch; when the device first went up for preorders in July 2021 (has it really been that long?

), the demand created some major issues for Valve’s Steam store.

And the handheld gaming PC is often at or near the top of Steam’s top-selling chart — even just two months after the device’s official February 2022 launch, it was clear that the Steam Deck was not a flop.

The company apparently even made a cake to celebrate selling 1 million units.
