Accepting the plane, Pence said in an interview with Meet the Press, “is inconsistent with our security, with our intelligence needs. And my hope is the president reconsiders it.”

Yes, it is. And Boeing is already building the two new ones Trump renegotiated the deal for back during his first term. I’ve been wondering this the entire time since there are two planes that swap when in maintenance.

The plane is clearly meant for Trump alone.

You’re being pedantic. You know that’s not what they were referring to.

The “Air Force One” that people recognize, the VC-25A (military equivalent of the 747-200B), is actually two airframes that swap back and forth as they need maintenance. Because the maintenance intervals on those jets can take months to perform fully and the need for a dedicated plane that can fully support the President is constant. The new variant being products is the VC-25B, based on the much more modern (but still 20-year old design) 747-8I.
