Some applications under i3 emit “window grabbed” events on every keypress.
And Orca now dutifully announces each one.
Every. Single. Time. You type? Orca announces the app.
You backspace? It announces again.
You navigate? It just keeps going.
It’s unusable.I don’t even know what Orca is nor do I use any accessibility features and this exact i3 issue has bothered me to no end. I have one application which is extremely happy about announcing that it exists. Anytime anything happens, it fires off a flurry of window events. It causes a race condition if I want to sleep my monitors using normal monitor commands, because the window will see that the screen has been slept and it will announce that it has seen this which wakes up the screen. Fucking why?
This is an interesting post from a blind Linux user on the decay of accessibility in Linux. Very interesting.
This person knows infinitely more about Linux than I ever will, and I’m so angry and sad for them and the community that needs accessibility help.
She’s a harsh mistress. But much more forgiving than in the past.
