I’m about 30 hours into Fallout 76 so far and I’m surprised how much I am enjoying it. There’s a lot of unique locations and creatures that make exploring fun. The MMO part of the game isn’t super blatant outside of the microtransactions for skins and certain items. When I do come across other players it’s usually because I stumbled into their camp and we just emote at each other a couple times before I move on. I don’t think there is a way to actually talk with other players outside. I think there might be voice chat but I haven’t tried it. The story seems pretty shallow though and mostly done through terminal entries and notes. I haven’t really felt compelled to follow the main story line. I’ve been slowly working my way East then South doing miscellaneous quests along the way and exploring.

I’ll probably play at least another 30 hours. I am not too sure how grindy late game quests will be. It costs caps to fast travel and they aren’t as easy to come across as they are in Fallout 4 so if quests objectives have me wandering back and forth across long distances I’ve already explored I could see that getting tiring in a hurry for example.

The only bug I’ve come across was being unable to move sporadically in the over world and consistently being unable to move indoors. It turns out this was due to my high FPS and I needed to cap it using AMD Chill.

I do wonder what was added in the Wastelanders DLC and how the game was before it.

TL:DR I’d say it’s worth picking up on sale and if you want to explore a bit. It doesn’t feel as deep as other Fallout games but it’s something.

Does anyone here want to play together? I’m on PC and mostly wandering around exploring but keep dumping most of my ammo into Sheepsquatchs. If you do want to play together shoot me a message and I’ll give you my Steam ID.

I can’t get over the lag the game has even on your own rented server while you’re the only player on it; I can’t imagine it would be better while actually playing with other people. Which is a shame, because it’s just as fun as FO4 otherwise.

I play 76 all the time. I’ve been on and off it since beta.

I recommend joining the official discord group as well as AngryTurtle’s discord group for friendly people to play with.

The game is in a really really good place right now. Lots of storylines, lots of endgame content, and the same great community the game has always had.

They are currently in the middle of a yearlong combat/perk rebalance with the next change (affecting all rifle/SMG/shotgun perks) due out in June.

    Some quick tips when levelling:

-Always join a casual team when first connecting to a server. There is no expectation that you group up with the people on your team and you will receive an INT bonus.

-When levelling up you can pick a different special point than the perk, and you can change the special point later at Perk Stations.

-Endgame crafting is dependent on learning plans and legendary affects. Learn all the cheap/free plans you can and SCRAP all legendary weapons and armor until you start getting level 50 gear.

-Join public events! They reward a lot of XP, unique plans and recipes, reputation (Eviction Notice and Moonshine Jamboree). If you see the Scorched Earth event you can avoid radiation using a hazmat suit.

-One of the best power armors in the game, Excavator is availability to craft very early, follow any guide online to learn the storyline.

Fuck, not again. I just rejigged my perks after previous update and they just tweaked my hunting rifle. Can’t they just leave perks alone and focus on new content and fixing/improving existing features (caravans for example).

best power armors in the game, Excavator

Single shot rifles are big winners on the PTS. All of the old damage bonuses from perks are built into the base weapons now. The damage perks you already have equipped will be renamed and help you do additional limb and weak point damage.

I appreciate their concern but I am fine at present. I wish they would do something productive instead. For example fix fucking caravans with Brahmin being stuck in the same place every time. Add the missing trader to the caravans. Add new way to earn stamps. Add “adjust gamma” option. List goes on.

Not raids, thanks. I tried few times and it is enough. This is not what Fallout is about for me.

I would love them to fix caravans and allow us to do them properly, with the starting/ending points on the main part of the map. More missions or quests also wouldn’t hurt. Plus bug fixing - rubberbanding is infuriating.

I mean honestly, who fucking asked them to tweak perks again when they just did? This is another example of some developer/marketing moron knowing better than customers what customers want.

    I share your feelings.

In brief words, I loved Fallout 1 & 2 and I strongly disliked F3 (it was infantile).

I was surprised to find out I actually enjoy F76 very much - I think it is about the mindset. F76 is a Fallout themed amusement park and does not mean to be taken seriously. As an amusement park it works very, very well.

I love the Fallout universe, but came to it late so in contrast to the other poster, I love 3 but could never get into 1 or 2 (despite having played lots of BG2, Icewind Dale, etc). NV ofc I love too but I kind of got bored by 4 after a while, despite the shooting definitely being more enjoyable, it wasn’t enough to save the story (or lack thereof)

A couple of years ago I picked up 76 on sale, and despite not being a MMO player I don’t mind it as far as they go. Definitely echo your comments about the MMO part not being as blatant, and weirdly I’ve enjoyed base building more than in 4? But ultimately, I’m not sure whether through lack of time or change in my tastes, I find it hard to “stick” with 76 before I get bored and put it down. It’s been a while though so it might be time for a reinstall…
