Vice President JD Vance traveled to Capitol Hill late Wednesday to cast a tie-breaking vote in the Senate that killed a bipartisan effort to rebuke President Donald Trump’s trade policy.
Earlier in the evening, the Senate rejected the resolution that would have effectively blocked Trump’s global tariffs by revoking the emergency order the president is using to enact them. Two senators who were set to vote for the resolution, Republican Mitch McConnell and Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse, were absent, allowing the resolution to fail 49-49.
So let me ask. What control do I have to change the inevitable tariffs? We lost the election and there’s no one to stop Trump. We can’t do anything to stop this. You had to take the time to prepare for it. I’m sorry about your situation. I’m ADHD and need my medication to function. Thats under attack from this administration and I’m expecting my pharmacy to tell me I’m no longer allowed to have access to my medication. But again. I’m just voicing my opinion. What do you think I can do to change any of this? I can’t do anything. I’ve voted. And I will vote next year. But besides that. I have no power.

I put nearly 70k away and have paid off all of my debts. I lost my job recently but I picked up some shifts at a store till I can find a new job. I’m hunkering down for the long haul.

Meh. I can grow my own weed. So I’m fine. 12 plants in the ground. Should have a few pounds when they’re done. That’s usually my biggest expense. Food? I can just go to my neighbors and barter some weed for some food from the field. Beef? I can go to a friends ranch and buy half a calf. Gas? Well I work next to my house now so I will ride my bike. I’ve stored away all the extra parts I’ll need. My car? It’s in great shape. So I’m not worried about it breaking down. Unless someone crashes into me. The main concerns I have is access to my ADHD medication because of that nut job Kennedy.
I mean yeah? That’s already a concern without Kennedy making a list if neurodivergent folks and checking it twice.
Anyways, what will you do if someone comes to take your shit? Like anyone, no one in particular. People have guns here.
I have a father who I care for who was a sniper in Vietnam. If a mother fucker would. I wave a few layers installed. But nothing beats the special forces guy I knew. Who gave his gram a rocket launcher for her home in the ghetto of Wilkes-Barre. Wild surprise. But I’m not that worried with where I live for that to happen. I have security systems installed. If anything people will get really great videos for YouTube. Of me going ham with my bare hands. I’ve done bar security in military towns. I know where I stand if someone wants to come through that door or window. But I also don’t go looking for problems.

nobody is asking you, personally, to fix it. but your wholehearted embracing of the suffering of others (i mean, at least you will be fine!) to “educate” is a bitter pill for people who are already struggling, and for people who rightly fear they won’t survive as readily as you will.
Sheldon Whitehouse (D) could have stopped Trump’s tariffs simply by showing up and doing his job, but he didn’t. That’s the whole point of this story.
House would not have passed it and certainly not have enough votes to overcome a Trump veto.
I wonder if he did this to force the tariffs through.
