hi, I’m an italian 22yo with level 1 autism and ADHD, recently diagnosed. I just joined and wanted to have a place where I’m understood. I hope we get along well :D
yo they got levels to autism now? when do I get to pick my class
Hi, I’m audhd as well. What do the levels mean? I had an informal diagnosis done by my therapist but I didn’t get a level, I was just “high functioning”.
the levels in the autism spectrum indicate the amount of support needed by an autistic person. High functioning autism is basically level 1 so low supports needs, level 2 is substantial supports need and 3 is high supports need. Labels like Aspergers or high-functioning are clinically irrelevant today, as in the DSM-5 all the different types of autism were joined into one single diagnosis, and that is autism spectrum disorder, hence the levels
In my experience they are used as a tool for discrimination
Probably similar, there are multiple terms that keep getting changed because they are offensive to someone or another… High functioning, low support needs, and presumably level 1 are the same thing. Note: haven’t fact checked, for all I know level 1 could be high support needs.
Welcome! I’m an American 21yo with low support needs autism also pretty much. Albeit I was diagnosed when I was a tot through.
cool! it’s always nice to remember that you’re not an alien and you’re not alone and there are people you can relate to
Welcome, Internet friend! Hope you get to feel at home here. Acceptance is a big value in this community so you should be pretty safe.
