This post is “FYI only” for blahaj lemmy members. It is not a debate, and is not intended for non blahaj lemmy users to weigh in and offer opinions.

I recently received reports of a feddit.uk user espousing transphobia. Specifically, this was a feddit.uk user refusing to use the word cis, repeating the “adult human female” dog whistle, and claiming that trans women are not women. I approached a member of the feddit.uk admin team and raised my concerns and sought clarification of their stance on posts like this, where the transphobia is mostly dogwhistles, and “civil disagreement” on the validity of trans folk.

I was told by the feddit.uk admin that their preferred response is this kind of transphobia is to “sort it out through discussion and voting”. However, the comments in question are currently more upvoted than downvoted, and little “sorting out” has occurred. The posts remain in place.

At this point, the admin stopped responding to my messages despite being active elsewhere on lemmy. When it became clear they were ignoring my messages and had no intention of removing the posts in question, I made the decision to defederate the instance.

I know some folk agree with the feddit.uk admins approach of pushback through discussion and voting, but this instance is not designed to be that kind of space. Blahaj lemmy is meant to be a place where we can avoid the rampant transphobia universally visible on nearly every other social media platform, and where we can exist without needing to debate our right to do so.

      There is a simple answer to the Nazi Bar parable. Deconstruct the ideology into elements. Use fine lines to combat the blurry lines the Nazi is exploiting. It’s not rocket science, it’s literally how Reddit operates. Not that anyone here would know that.

          I wouldn’t leave it to just trolling and illegal stuff. Spamming obvious propaganda, shitting up a digital space with dumb bullshit (doesn’t have to political, just distracting and irrelevant), commercial spam, baiting users to piss them off. There are many situations were mod actions are justified.

          But this is definitely not the case.

              Not sure why you’re bringing me into this. First, I’m not, and never have been, transphobic. My gf is transgender and beautiful. Secondly, I don’t even know this Leni person.

              Feel free to hate me, but do you really have to bring up my name every single time someone says something controversial?

              Besides, I never even did anything controversial except vote for the Socialist candidate instead of Democratic candidate in the election. Only fucking Lemmy would call that controversial.

              I stand by my voting record. You all are obsessed! lol

                  Sure, but the comment (which has since been removed by mod for witch-hunting) bizarrely brought up my name in the conversation. I didn’t ban Leni, nor do I have anything to do with Leni.

                  It was just a bizarre name drop that had nothing to do with the discussion. I’m not involved in any of the dealings in this thread or the OP.

            Someone who has had a mix of things in her past that she regrets but made up for and things that are easy to take out of context or exaggerate (and who has had people follow her everywhere who don’t care which is which because they want to blemish her as much as possible), with many of the examples you were given having been removed by rule enforcers on the basis of going against genuineness, if that serves to indicate you fell for others’ dishonesty.

              Yeah, I guess most of what I listed does fall under trolling.

              I just hope other instances don’t follow BLZ on this issue. It is completely unjustified.

All because I listened to people higher than me and temporarily removed you from a community for trying to dog whistle that Luigi guy (or is this based on year-old claims that have fallen apart in the face of discussion).                     For someone who so often brings up the power of discussion, if that was a concern of yours (it isn’t an issue a lot of other people have), I’m surprised you aren’t one to simply ask “what does X part mean” when you are stumped.

            I’ll be honest, that definitely doesn’t sound like an abuse of mod powers to me. She acted on those who tried to incite violence against people with money. Lemmy has the worst reputation of all time across the web, with even Tumblr blocking most fediverse links, and the worst thing one can discourage is the occasional reasonable opinion on here. The admins probably asked her to do it, and whatever happened upon her defending Musk seems to make the same mindset crystal clear.

            Modlogs lie too, and admins overreact. Look at the OP. That’s the whole point here. Are you telling me you’ve never been banned from another website for reasons that didn’t apply to you? I don’t agree with everything she says, but she is right to take it all with a grain of salt, and the fact she said so was spoken in a way that proves all her points.
