If we manage to have elections in for years, I will vote for any Democrat that vows to use the powers that Trump has laid out against Republicans.

Goose and gander if we can make it through these dark times.

My Rubicon has been crossed. If you aren’t sabotaging American infrastructure and Republican operations at this point you are subdued are complicit. This is a deadly attack on Democracy and the American People that hasn’t been seen since WW2 against Japanese American citizens. Ask George Takei how that was.

Friendly reminder that we are looking at a government that is likely going to imprison political dissidents and you do not know who the admins of lemmy.world are or what they will and won’t turn over before and after getting a call from the secret police.

Just like the rest of us don’t know who you are and don’t know if you are that “protester” with a very visible body armor and gun bulge under your shirt.

The Internet is a beautiful thing to make disseminating information and organizing protests MUCH easier. But it is also a great way to release insane amounts of personal information to bad actors. Practice good OPSEC and understand who you are communicating with AND who is listening.

They’re not in the US. I think they’re based in the Netherlands or something. You are 100% correct though. My account is a prime example of what not to do.

We THINK they are based in the Netherlands. Maybe they are, maybe they aren’t (VPNs and shell corporations are a thing). Either way, we don’t know if they’ll insist that Netherlands/EU law will protect them or if they’ll just hand over everything the moment they see the kind of headache they don’t want to deal with.

          Again, OPSEC.

Lemmy.world is based in Germany. The ToS says that it’s governed by German law.

And just because it’s based on Germany doesn’t mean it’s not run as a NSA honeypot, or that they aren’t federated with the honeypot.

This is a federated instance. Nothing on here is secure. All of it is forever. If you don’t think everything thing you post on here isn’t being archived and attached to a metadata profile that likely includes your public IP address you’re going to have a very bad time.

As @ProdigalFrog@slrpnk.net has already said, please read https://slrpnk.net/post/17910446

Edit: this missive is for anyone reading this thread. If you live in the US and aren’t using a non US VPN or tor browser or I2P don’t post anything regarding direct action. If you don’t know what those are, it’s a great time to learn about them. Free Speech means nothing to the current administration.

Yeah, it can’t be overstated how bad this is. This is functionally the end of due process. If the government says you’re a criminal, you get memory holed in El Salvador without a trial, and you are never coming back.

I said it before: everything is moving much faster than anyone could have reasonably anticipated. At the current rate we might see the first American citizens being deported by next week. Do you still think it’s not going to happen? What other things did you think wouldn’t happen.

I have been saying this for a bit. Peaceful protests work in a democratic environment.

Trump is a narcissistic psychopath. He only understands power. So we’re likely gonna have to get violent to get him out of there. Just saying

Yup. Peaceful protests only work when the tyrant actually cares about the opinion of the protesters and may want to go out with even a shred of dignity.

That doesn’t work for self-absorbed scum who believes they’re above everyone else and thinks they can win by bulldozing the opposition - appealing to the good will of a sociopath won’t save you, because there’s none there.

He’s calling the people’s bluff, and he damn well knows the people don’t want to get their hands dirty.

All the defense of school shootings for what? For a second amendment that isn’t even used in the only situation in history where it would be justified? All talk, no action. And Trump is exploiting it big time.

So how does your snarky Lemmy comment helps fight fascism again? Does attempts at stopping the organisation of a resistance movement while it’s in its infancy roadblocks the rise of fascism or bolsters it, in your opinion?

More importantly, what effort have you done to organise a resistance that is more effective than the protest that you sneer at?

Physically put my body on roads to block coal trucks from the Great Barrier Reef. Instead of peacefully holding a sign where the police gave me permission to do so, I risked my freedom and safety by body blocking trucks and giving police chase. They never caught me, but the NYPD got me for blocking the Brooklyn Bridge during the Occupy protests (along with 800 other people).

What about you, how does your snarky Lemmy comment help fight against fascism again?
