That was a great race. So many great performances as well - piastri with the dominant win, russell dragging the fast but buggy merc to 2nd, gasly being ahead of several of the big guns for most of the race, Yuki making it into the points in just his 2nd red bull weekend and Haas in general nailing the strategies with their drivers also executing.
The wheel to wheel racing was also insane. These modern cars are good for racing but now need wider circuits. The old circuits are unfortunately too narrow for these behemoths.
Imola and Monaco back-to-back is sure to be the pinnacle of motorsports alright.
Was really exciting seeing ferrari move up through the field towards the top 3. If that safety car hadn’t been called, ferrari could’ve gone for soft tires and put pressure to get both drivers on the podium
Hopefully ferrari improves on this and keeps the momentum going
This race should hopefully restore some confidence to both Leclerc and Hamilton. I doubt they can challenge the championship, but we’ll see how McLaren measures up to the rest in Spain and moving forward from there.
I still think it’s too early. If we look at 2024 it wasn’t a a done deal by race 4. I still am living with Ferrari hopium.
Great race overall, with a couple of caveats. I think that safety car was a joke and while it did spice things up it was a massive overreaction to a tiny speck of debris and completely unnecessary, and had way too big an impact on the race.
Japan last week to this race back-to-back really showcases the importance of a track and whether it’s conducive to good racing or not. We had some great action today with good battles and some really nice overtakes (and some clumsy collisions).
Also shows the importance of tyres and strategy: all three compounds being in play always tends to exciting races. On that note I think the teams might have actually underestimated this year’s tyres. People were doing 24 laps on the Softs today. I really think the one-stopper was on today. Which shouldn’t be possible in Bahrain but here we are.
Flawless weekend from Piastri who’s really showing his championship calibre. I think Norris might have a problem this season and will need to get on top of his mental, because Oscar is going to give him one hell of a fight. He has basically ironed out all his weaknesses now.
Also thought Russel keeps impressing, always extracting the absolute maximum. People have been sleeping on him for years but he’s staying in the title fight (for now) simply by being Mr Consistent.
Special shout-out to Antonelli who actually drove really well and made some really slick overtakes, but got completely fucked by his pitwall. Letting him get undercut and stuck in a DRS train early on was bad enough, but I really don’t understand what they were doing on the safety car.
Just wanted to say i always enjoy reading your summaries 👍
❤️
I felt Ollie should have gotten DOTD over Lewis. 20th to 10th and points (well, a point) in a Haas seems more impressive than 9th to 5th in a Ferrari.
Enjoyed the race though! But this is multiple weeks now where we’ve had issues with the graphics during the race. This week was the most egregious but there’s been multiple examples in 2025 where they’ve turned off the timing on screen because of problems, often with some of the animations freezing or causing driver names to overlap. Wonder what happened to it in the off season?
So disappointed that Verstappen wound up ahead of Gasly. What an amazing quiet race he had.
I do feel sad for Gasly, but I am a Verstappen fan, so anything that makes it easier for him to win a fifth WDC in hard circumstances is something I like. And with this RB car you know it’s not evident.
Don’t be sorry for him! Alpine is clearly moving forward, and with Gasly as their number one driver. 6th or 7th doesn’t matter much when they were at the very back of the grid not long ago.
A 5 second penalty would drop Russell between the Ferraris
The punishment can be much harsher if it is found to be an avoidable offense. Driving around with a car that does not comply to regulations would result in disqualification.
That’s an… interesting safety car. Did Ferrari forego this month’s protection money to MBS?

I really hope Norris doesn’t sail into a P2 because of a possible penalty for Russell.
