Apple Maps for Android isn’t available as an app on the Google Play Store. Instead, Apple has made it possible for Android users to go to maps.apple.com from their browsers on their phone to access the navigation service.
that… is not something I ever wanted to do.
I installed the Nintendo DSi web browser on my 3ds. Don’t test me.
LMAO the weirdest thing I am gonna read today… Probably.
Post a neofetch from your 3DS or you’ve failed the test
The one thing android users want apple to keep to themselves…
Still though, its nice to have more options in case Google ever decides to lockout custom ROM users.
Yeah i guess it doesnt hurt
I really don’t like apple but their satellite map is very fancy. Just so detailed.
Will use organic maps though.
This is for when apple users send you a link, I guess?
Apple maps are better then google maps I found for UX. Sadly OSM based solutions (I do like organic maps) are often just far too lacking.
organic maps is solid but needs traction, adding stuff to OSM by yourself is a bit difficult
If you find contributing to OSM a chore, you might wanna look into “StreetComplete”. They have managed to “gamify” contributing to the database.
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/de.westnordost.streetcomplete/
It’s also available on PlayStore.
On the flip side, living in a place Google doesn’t index properly, I’ve found adding stuff to OSM to be infinitely easier than adding/correcting things on Google Maps. Google just has the advantage of already having 99% of stuff on it
Yeah, adding stuff to Google is actually a worse experience than OSM, haha
yeah the main issue is a lot of times if you know where stuff is, you don’t need to use it. so its a bit less then convenient.
I wish there were tools that when you searched a place you could import into oom, but then, that would be a violation.
Lol, no thanks
I’ll be honest at first I thought this would’ve been a good thing so I can uninstall GMaps for when I need to get somewhere on a time constraint (I mainly use Organic Maps), and it was a + that it was only a website for me, but I can’t get the website to actually load. It keeps refreshing and not loading, on both IronFox (Firefox fork) and Chromium 😭
It works fine for me behind my pihole for:
-
Vanadium 135.0.7049.79
-
IronFox 137.0.1 (Build #31370130),with Ublock Origin
-
TorBrowser 14.0.9 (128.9.0esr) (Build #2016082450)
I was able to browse and pull up directions as expected in three browsers. Did not use live navigation or location detection.
edit: refreshing like that could be broken JavaScript (for me it is often NoScript)
Idk why but on my phone it just keeps redirecting me to https://maps.apple.com/frame after it loads, infinitely. Thats so odd that it works for you on the same browser with the same config and not for me. I wonder if my Pi-Hole has something different making it happen

Honestly I might consider giving this a try. I really don’t want Google to have my location at all times, and I trust Apple at least a bit more with my data. Currently using Magic Earth, but the traffic info and search, while usable, are not great.
Apple Maps was GARBAGE when I first used it, but all these years (maybe 11, 12?) later, I easily prefer it to Google maps. Firstly cuz I don’t use any Google products or services, but even if I did, Apple Maps is a really polished experience now, and it’s never got me lost.
I would recommend Organic Maps
I’ve tried it, but there isn’t any traffic data, so it’s really not usable for me. Also the search isn’t great either, and there’s no lane indicator.
Don’t get me wrong, I think OSM and Organic are great projects, they just don’t really compare to other options for my use.
It sucks can’t find anything no traffic data. One of the reason I use these is traffic data to avoid being stuck.
Release a crappy implementation of a crappy app so that nobody uses it and argue to the judge “Android users wouldn’t use imessage either”
I don’t know about the actual data, but no routing for public transport or bike already makes it worthless to me anyway
