This is probably going to be unpopular, but for some reason, I’ve always found such a patriotic superhero really cringe and it always turned me off. It’s like Canada is trying to imitate the U.S. with Captain America.

Also, what happens when your country’s leader becomes something like Donald Trump? What does such a superhero represent then? How can you still support Captain America at that point if he represents American values? Or do MAGAts see Captain America as woke now? How does that even work with these people? And why should such asuperhero be a white man? Why not a native? Why not a woman? (See Captain America: Brave New World for example)

We can see how this became a problem with Captain America. The actor who plays Captain America in Brave New World, Anthony Mackie, himself said that the character’s values did not currently represent America. And right now we all pretty much dissappointed the U.S. because of the bullshit they’re pulling right now.

I rather have a superhero(ine) who have their own individual identity and is not tied to a nation.

The Captain America comics have gotten some good mileage out of that theme over the years - what do you do when the ideals you supposedly represent no longer reflect the actual nation?

If done thoughtfully, it can be an asset, rather than a liability.

That’s exactly what it feels like to me. A knockoff of the US character. But I’m not familiar with the history of the characters, so maybe the name+theme is just a coincidence.

I’m in full agreement. Countries are complex, their ideals change over time, and they mean different things to different people. Trying to tie a product like a superhero to them is gonna be complex and sometimes gross.
