    @mattblaze@federate.social Inverted cone, hmm. If I understand correctly, it is not the very visible ring that is the essential thing here (even if that is the impression one gets as a layman), but actually the radial horizontal wires to the ring, and those going from the ring down to the root.

    For low frequencies like shortwave (compared to modern GHz stuff), solid disc and cone surfaces can be approximated by radial wires? Which of course is much easier to build and won’t be destroyed by wind. Fascinating.

      @tml right, exactly. The essential elements are the ground and the cone of wires radiating upward. The big ring and tower is just the support system.
