(Reposting @buyeuropean@feddit.org’s post to federate sticky post and adding a bit of new info. Here you can find the original post.
Additionally: A link to a post where the dev answers questions about buy-european.net’s philosophy and reasoning around their decisions.
We worked the last months on a new completely ad-free database for European products, brands, services and companies. A few days ago we released the site. The website focuses on usability with a simple search form and a clear structure. After the technical development we are now in the process of filling the database with content. The website is currently available in English and German!
You can also submit your own suggestions for European products, Non-European products that you try to find alternatives to, and categories that may be missing.
If you have any feedback, we would appreciate it. If you like it and want to share it, we appreciate that too. :)
Thanks in advance!
Looks great and is easy to use, even when you’re just looking for new stuff. I hope you continue to update it with more products too! So far I only have one question, and that is where the server is hosted?
The origin servers are located in the EU with a EU headquartered hoster. Our CDN provider is also headquartered in the EU. We do not use Google Analytics but self-hosted open source analytics software on our own servers unlike some other websites that focus on the same topic.
Nice to hear that you practice what you preach ☺️
A good question! I didn’t find this information at a quick glance of the website or our previous threads so I’ll ping the dev:
There’s so many of these right now it’s hard to actually keep track.
Insert relevant xkcd about standards except make it about making one website that gathers all of these websites together.
No but in all seriousness this is just a repost of an older post which was stickied here, but the “sticky” didn’t federate across different instances.
This is awesome!!
I’m in Canada, but support as many EU brands as I can. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to replace Garmin products down the road, and this website listed SIGMA as an alternative - made in Germany bike computers (and more)! I can’t wait to explore this list further!
Hey thanks for sharing your experience, glad our Canadian friends are getting as much out of this as we do! :)
Awesome work, love the minimalistic, simple design. Love it, will share it with my friends, family! Thanks to everyone who worked on this ❤️
Pinging @buyeuropean@feddit.org who I bet would appreciate your positive feedback of the website! :)
Thanks for the ping! :)
Thank you for the kind words! :)
I just need an app to: scan the barcode of a product and he returns me EU or NOT EU. That’s it.
