A presidential primary filing period marked by lights, cameras and (in)action has come to a close at the New Hampshire secretary of state’s office.

Two weeks before he dropped out, former Vice President Mike Pence was the only candidate to have his own studio lights shining on him as he signed up for the yet-to-be-scheduled Republican contest next year.

Former President Donald Trump’s staff ripped up tape from the carpet that reserved spots for local journalists and put his campaign photographer up front instead.

President Joe Biden skipped signing up altogether, in deference to changes that the Democratic National Committee is making to the nominating calendar.

So biden won’t show on their ballot, but someone running D who wants the party to join the extreme christofascist mind will be on the ticket?

It’s just a primary, and he’s the incumbent. All it takes to get on the NH ballot is a $1k fee by the deadline. Getting your name on the ballot means fuck-all.

Edit for full disclosure: there’s also some paperwork to do, like filling out a Declaration of Candidacy. https://www.sos.nh.gov/elections/running-office

It’s only because of New Hampshire being morons and insisting they must have the first primary in the country always. The Democratic Party wants another state to have their first primary in 2024 (South Carolina) because it’s more demographically diverse than NH. So Biden won’t be on the ballot and it’s likely NH will lose half of its delegates to the party’s convention as a consequence.

Agree… no one state should have more influence than another. Also, it makes the contest more of a horse race and less about people just voting their values. And, it gives powerful interests time and opportunity to meddle. Like when Bernie won early on in 2020 primaries, and then Obama called up all the other Dem candidates and asked them to drop out so Joe Biden could win.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A presidential primary filing period marked by lights, cameras and (in)action has come to a close at the New Hampshire secretary of state’s office.

Democrat Terissa Bukovinac, who appeared surprised to have an audience of reporters when she signed up, wants her party to join the push to outlaw abortion.

The changes, made at Biden’s request, are meant to better empower Black and minority voters by leading off in a state with more people of color than New Hampshire has.
