@mattblaze@federate.social My aunt, who is no longer with us, was a volunteer based in that building, patiently answering tourists’ questions and advising people where to go and what to see at the Smithsonian. I grew up in the DC area but have been in California for more than 40 years. I feel I have to get back there and see all the museums before JD Vance destroys them.
Not sure it’s actually gonna go anywhere, but Trump admin has started making some moves against the Smithsonians - https://apnews.com/article/trump-smithsonian-executive-order-improper-ideology-558ebfab722f603e94e02a1a4b06ed4d
Which is a dam shame, they are some of the real jewels of the US capital.
@mattblaze@federate.social Too bad about all the cars in the way.
@grimalkinUSA@sfba.social I don’t mind. It fixes in time.
Captured with the Rodenstock 50mm/4.0 HR Digaron-W lens (@ f/5.6) and the Phase One back, shifted vertically a bit to maintain geometry.
This is a straightforward composition showing the front of the Smithsonian Castle, which is not actually a castle, and, despite being part of the Smithsonian, not actually a museum, either (it houses mostly offices and a small visitor center). It sits on the National Mall, which, despite the name, is not a shopping center. Lies and deceit everywhere in DC!
Really impressive getting that shot without any people in it!
@mattblaze@federate.social This is a top tier toot
@mattblaze@federate.social they’re all good pixels matt!
@mattblaze@federate.social This has a real 1800’s vibe to it. Like those old stereoscope cards.
