Sometimes I think they’re trying to scare up NATO spending, but they’re doing it in an entirely pyrrhic way.

Mostly I think they have a 1970 RISK level understanding of the world and do not understand how alliances work.

They talk about geopolitics like they’re 14 and think everything is zero sum, lacking even the most basic elements is game theory and economics.

Yeah. I know some of those types. The almost always misunderstand the moment and deploy some of the worst strategies.

Europeans are finally increasing their defense spending. Asking them nicely for the last decade didn’t work.

Sure they’re increasing their defense spending. But not really in the interest of USA.

USA wanted european defense spending to increase for multiple reasons:

        1. To funnel european money into the american military industrial complex.
        • This isn’t happening right now. Europeans are prioriticing european contractors.
        1. To fight in american wars of agression around the world.
        • Fat fucking chance when USA is threatening wars of agression against NATO countries.
        1. To defend against Russia.
        • With Putin owning Trump, this is now against Trump’s interests.
        • While the threat from Russia is pretty big, they’re not in any way in a position to fight anything bigger than Ukraine.

Or, hear me out, maybe the Americans simply didn’t want to pick up the tab for European defense.

Russia is a much bigger problem for Europe than for the US.
