Summary

The European Union will invest $5 billion in South Africa after Donald Trump’s administration cut nearly all U.S. aid.

EU chief Ursula von der Leyen announced the funding at a Cape Town summit, emphasizing support for clean energy projects like wind, solar, and hydrogen, as well as vaccine manufacturing.

The EU, now South Africa’s largest sub-Saharan trading partner, pledged to prioritize local jobs and development rather than simply extracting resources for export.

That’s such a bullshit and racist take. As someone who actually lives in the country the real reason why non of that money will make a difference is because of the greedy and entitled ANC run government. The only time they ever want to do anything is during elections or whenever an international event happens. Take g20 for instance, the president was apparently embarrassed with the stat of Johannesburg during the first meeting dispite it being a well known fact for more than a decade now that Gauteng has gone to shit. The other time things dramatically improved was during the 2010 world cup.
