I would not let that doggy that close. Seems like there are some strong forces at play. If the dog gets stuck under the forest floor when it goes down it might not end well

I wouldn’t get close or stand on it myself… I don’t feel like getting pinned by a fallen tree.

Odd that those trees don’t have roots that go deeper

Many conifers don’t root downwards, but sideways instead. That is one of the reasons why storms hit monoculture forests so hard. The root network is just to shallow to withstand strong winds.

That forest hasn’t been there long apparently. Most forests in Scotland are just monoculture tree farms.

Fir and pine are no deep rooters.

Hence it is easy to grow on rocky terrain that never had a forest there.

Trees have a lot of surface area to catch the wind.

Was in a wind storm last year where I watched from my basement apartment as the wind blew stronger than I’ve ever seen on the branches of the tree in the back yard. It looked like the wind was so strong it was ripping the sod off the ground at first, until I realized that the tree was going down and pulling its root ball with it. Luckily in the opposite direction, though I am curious how that would have turned out if it landed on the house instead of my internet wire.
