    Story time:

I teach underwater photography at the local university. It’s a night class, and I was teaching about shooting macro in a pool with my students.

We’re at the surface, and a student points behind me and says, “What the hell is that?”

It was a bright light that looked like someone was going crazy with the focus on a camera, with the lightpoint being small, bright, and sharp and divide and blurry, but it looked like that to the eye. It was mysterious and awesome. Then it bloomed into some kind of flower made of light and gas before going dark.

I had a several thousand dollar camera setup with a big zoom lens in my hands, and you know I went nuts taking shots.

The thing about underwater macros is you generally shoot them with the aperture closed as much as possible, the ISO low, and a fast shutter, then you blast the hell out of the target with your strobes.

So I was taking shots with an ISO of 200, F-stop of 22, and a shutter speed of 1/250th of a second.

Turns out SpaceX rockets de-orbiting are out of range of my mini-strobes, and the pictures were just black rectangles.

While I enjoy speculating over UFO/UAP footage, it can be abused by a lot of media to take the spotlight off of some other very real and most likely concerning news.

Trump is speed running the collapse of a nation, so it makes sense for coverage to deviate to UFO/other news when he’s doing dodgies.

    • Every time I had seen it hit the fp when I still used Reddit, it was because some new ex-military person came out saying they had proof that the US government had aliens and alien craft… Only for it to be a big ol’ fat nothing burger.

Remember when there was all those drones and everyone was convinced it was either a Russian invasion or aliens and then, nothing

The aviation subs/communities pointed out how kind it was for aliens to use Federal Aviation Administration approved lights and lighting schemes. Really kind of them to build craft that follow US laws.

The news also got obsessed over the fact that drones made of plastic don’t appear on radar.

            • They worked out new scanning frequencies to find them. Same deal as the balloons that were sneaking in. Wonder whether they’ve already dismantled the gear for both, or is the military safe from the completely reasonable budget cuts?

A little bit, yeah. Trump supporters are also very desperate people, many of them turned to the dark side due to grievances with the world. And not all of them are always imagined. The wrong part is the conclusions these people come to and the way they go about correcting what they think is wrong…

Conspiracy theories are rife with these people. UFO ones where aliens poke you in the butt and interview you about the planet and wipe your memory are very common in these groups.

Meanwhile as a progressive the aliens I fantasise about are like… enlightened and compassionate lol.
