Please don’t hate Americans and the USA. Direct your disgust at the dolt-in-chief and those who elected/support him. Most Americans are kicking themselves for not doing more to keep him out of any position of leadership.
You can say whatever, but it is the second time it happens.
Hardest thing to make Americans see is that this is how we are. We have the best propoganda in the world for our own citizens. They can look at our largest national export of causing pain to brown people, and go that’s not “us”, that’s “them”.
Hate to break it to ya’ll, them is us.
There’s something uniquely American about asking the world to not start hating the US now that you’re paying attention
And this time you can’t even blame the electoral college.
It’s like when my close friend started doing cocaine. I didn’t want to spend my time around that, and we grew apart because of it. America elected a proven fascist not once, but twice. And he was rebuked once, so now he’s on a revenge spree. Trump is turning against long-time allies in a way that only makes sense if the goal is specifically to make everything worse.
All this considered, as a Canadian, I don’t hate the USA or Americans in general, but I will make an effort to avoid American things to a reasonable extent. I certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable traveling to the US, so some of my long-time plans need to be reconsidered. I will make an effort to buy Canadian, or at least non-American, as far as is reasonable and within my means.
Numbers may provide some perspective.
There are 245M registered voters and 347M US citizens. Trump won 77M votes.
That’s only 31% of registered voters, and 22% of the nation.
And this time around, anyone who failed to vote made a conscious decision to allow this. Those 69% of registered voters are not victims here.
So am I supposed to be mad at the 77 million voters or the 77 million voters plus the (at least) 91 million people who didn’t vote against him?
77+91 for me. Couldn’t even be bothered to do the bare minimum to stop this. So I hate most of my fellow Americans. Makes meeting new people and being in public generally miserable.
The second one. They deserve your contempt. All Americans do not.
You can interpret that data any way you’d like.
Personally, I felt some reassurance learning that 1 in 5 people voted for Trump after initially seeing it as every other person.
It’s not like this has happened before and you could have seen this coming, oh wait it did and you could, fuck off
Yes. I hate ourselves.
Don’t worry. The world’s distaste for the US didn’t start in 2024 or 2016 and it won’t end in 2028. This hardly moves the needle.
I wouldn’t say it doesn’t move the needle
Edit: or even just hardly moves, as you put it.
Trump is really an idiot and I’m amazed how people can vote for him
But then I look around in Europe and get quite silent …For the vast majority of the world, US foreign policy and the perception of the US haven’t really changed.
Maybe if he nukes Singapore or something.
