To all the new users joining, I suggest you try our tesseract frontend but we also have a choice of three others.
Thank you, I’ll give Tesseract a shot. Currently I don’t know how to load up comments.
15 seconds later: I am IN the comments. Sorry. Thank you.
I didn’t like the direction the Reddit was taking with banning subreddits like WPT and bending the knee to Elon. I scrubbed and deleted my main and my alt last night so I guess this post is about me lol
Welcome. Unfortunately you won’t have access to !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com from your instance, but should be good for everything else.
What if they’re all bots ?
Tell, Gooner about lemmynsfw and ani.social instance. Also hell yeah
I tried to join dbzer0 a couple months back and still can’t login even after confirming email. Waiting on approval or some such.
We sometimes reject incomplete applications. We also link to an appeal channel where one can ask to be reconsidered.
I’ll take a look.
Long ago when media was in physical form there were two formats. VHS and beta max. Beta was superior in most ways… but VHS had porn. Maybe this is what starts a tipping point.
Hey! Welcome. Cool of you to join our instance.
If you’re familiar with the old internet, when communities were actually communities, and each board had it’s own vibe and culture, then you’ll do fine here. If not, just listen to southsamurai. Lurk a bit. Feel it out. You’ll learn and adjust and you’ll do fine!
Fwiw, some advice for the wave of fresh r/efugees
This isn’t reddit. It looks similar, and it is similar by design. But it ain’t reddit. Hang back, lurk a while and try to absorb some of the lemmy “culture” before jumping into anything hot button at all, and be aware that lemmy is not a single thing.
Lemmy is not one big site. It’s a whole bunch of sites run by individuals and groups. On each of them, you’ll find communities (and it is communities, not subs, sublemmies, or similar). Every specific site, called an instance, may have different rules from the rest. So pay attention to where you are before jumping in all het up on a topic.
You might be on a community on dbzer0.com now, and find a community called c/paper. You might go over to sh.itjust.works and find another c/paper. This is part of how lemmy works. It is not a mistake, it is not a problem. But it is confusing. So be aware of it, and factor it in when you decide to post or comment.
This is great stuff. I’ll add a few hints of my own.
There’s no such thing as “global Lemmy admins”; there are the admins of your home instance (where you’re registered to) and the admins of the instance where you’re posting. It’s messier because each group will enforce different rules, but it also means that no group of arseholes can kick you completely out of Lemmy.
If you’re a newcomer odds are that you don’t know which would be the best home instance for you. That’s completely OK - almost everyone was like this, including me. So if you don’t feel satisfied with your home instance, create a new account in another instance and migrate.
Desktop users might benefit from the extension “Instance Assistant for Lemmy & Kbin” (Firefox link, Chrome link).
App users: remember when Reddit had a whole rainbow of third party apps to choose from? Lemmy is like this: there’s Jerboa (the official one) but also Voyager, Mlem, Boost, and many others. Give this link a check, or just look for “Lemmy” in your app store.
I completely forgot I had an account on here, lol
Hello from NZ
Hi fellow Kiwi.
New users? We should ask the German communities to do the sturgeon thing again, that was fun!
My approving finger is tired. We must have gotten +200 new users in the past few hours!
I am sorry for causing any pain . I was just interested to see what’s going on here.
Brilliant.
Welcome! We’re a merry band of Reddit refugees.
Try some of the many apps as well like Sync and Voyager.
I’m currently using boost as I used to use that for Reddit, hence the sense of familiarity. But I’ll check out voyager as well as it seems new.
I read yesterday that Boost for Lemmy has been abandoned. Which is a shame!
Wait. Really ? That’s really unfortunate. But I’ll stick to boost for now as it’s easier to navigate due to familiarity.
If there’s serious issues then I’ll switch to another client like voyager
if you just want to check out voyager without commitment, head over to https://v.lemmy.dbzer0.com/ :-)
Welcome in from the cold. We have hot cocoa and blankets (and shit-posts).
No pain, don’t worry
Hello there!
Congrats on the massive growth!
That’s what my oncologist said
Impressive!
This is completely unrelated but I’m also curious while you’re here, what happens to our sign up data / how secure is it? Im slightly worried about pid on me in a lefty space these days.
Stupid me didn’t use a throwaway email or anything (can’t even remember if it asked for an email). I should prob just make a new acct
what happens to our sign up data / how secure is it? I
As secure as I can make it on a shoestring budget. Basically unless we get targeted by a nation-state, you should be fairly secure. If OpSec is a concern, I suggest deleting the account and making one on a VPN using a throwaway email
Thanks for the reply and considering our data security, much appreciated.
Admins can see your email upon registration. So if you’re really paranoid make an new account with a decoy email.
Hello, Sunshine!
hi @all :)
Romanes eunt domus!
Welcome, fellow refugee!
You get to drink from the FIREHOSE!
Such a great movie
I say this at work all the time.
