Finally got them playing as gifs (or was it done some time ago? I haven’t visited for some time). All the previous ones I’ve seen were playing as video rather than gif
I see. The problem was in the mobile client which I was using (Thunder) which requires you to press play after every end and has a dark screen unless your press the screen a second time after pressing play once. I’ve tried another (voyager) and the past ones replay immediately.
Linked WebP files and GIFs have worked for a while, but uploading them directly to the instance was problematic. I haven’t tried uploading since Lemmy (as a technology) doesn’t seem to be evolving much.
