Health at Risk: Nurses for America Sounds the Alarm on RFK Jr.’s Dangerous Nomination to Lead HHS Nurses for America is gravely concerned by the nomination of Robert F Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) which oversees 13 critical divisions, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Indian Health Service (IHS), and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). RFK Jr.’s intentional spread of false health information about vaccines is a threat to our nation’s health and is especially detrimental to our children. Years of research shows that vaccinations are a safe and cost-effective way to protect children, families, and communities from disease, disability, and death. As nurses, we are often responsible for administering vaccines and setting up the community clinics that provide them. We educate patients and families about the recommendations, risks, benefits, and side effects as well as providing the VIS (Vaccine Information Sheet) with each vaccine administered. We follow vaccine guidelines and recommendations set by the CDC and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) that are based on scientific data. Nurses follow evidence-based practice. We take our role to protect our patients’ health and prevent disease very seriously, having spent many years studying science, health, illness and disease prevention. Allowing Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a vaccine skeptic with no background or education in health, science, or medicine to oversee our nation’s health system in addition to controlling our drugs, research, health information, and payment systems is dangerous to our patients and the public. We deserve a leader we can trust to safeguard our nation’s health with science and accurate information. As Protect Our Care notes, “Between his fringe views on vaccines and his disregard of science and public health, RFK Jr. is unfit to lead HHS and is a danger to the American people.” WHEN COMPLETE, PLEASE CLICK “SUBMIT”. This is a community for physicians, PAs, NPs, Nurses, Paramedics, EMTs, CNAs, LPNs, students of medical disciplines, and folks interested in joining the field.

Rules: 1. No discrimination, bigotry, intolerance, or harassment allowed. Instances of such behavior will be deleted, and users with multiple offenses will be banned.

2. Please do not post personal medical questions here. Case reports for discussion are fine, but if you’re looking for medical advice, you should consult a physician IRL. If you are trying to figure out what kind of specialist to go to, post a comment to the pinned post.

3. No marketing or advertising of commercial products. Recommendations based on personal experience for educational resources are fine, but outright advertisement is not.

4. Be rad to each other. This field is rough enough as it is, no need to tear each other down. If you have a critical opinion of something, present your arguments as critique of policies or practices in a respectful manner. (e.g. discussions about scope of practice for APPs)

5. PLEASE REPORT THINGS THAT BREAK THE RULES! (At the moment, there is one of me, and I am a medical student with pudding for brains and slim to none in the way of free time [yay clinicals!], so help me out here :D)

6. Flag NSFW/NSFL posts appropriately. If you’ve been in the field more than a couple months, you’ve probably got your own little pile of PTSD already, but give folks a warning if you’re going to be talking about gnarly stuff. Not everyone is in a good headspace to deal with trauma-dumping or over-sharing. (Note: Discussions of painful or traumatic experiences are allowed, just give folks a heads up before they click.)
