With any luck, hackers will turn them into penises
Or a 9/11 recreation

Or cyberpunk. Or watched Blade Runner.
Sky holograms are pretty common in corpo dystopia fiction. And maybe future non fiction. Jesus
The problem with cyberpunk fiction is that some people have no media literacy and a lot of money and decide their company should do things from their favorite stories.
Lack of media literacy is becoming a huge problem for society. People either think fiction is reality or just literally don’t understand satire, parody, and cautionary tales.
The Torment Nexus meme is too real
My problem is that it’s too real to enjoy
Well, image in the picture really looks like ads from WALL-E, especially those on an Axiom spaceship’s ‘fake sky’.
Anyone who’s played Cyberpunk 2077 might remember the big ads projected into the sky above the city. It adds a really cool dystopian atmosphere to the game.
In real life it would be a nightmare come true.

It’s not theoretical, look up Candy Crush New York.
They can start going all out with regular ad programming over tier 1 cities many times each day almost as soon as they find themselves able to get away with it.
It’s will be regular within a few years if we let it.
If we could get cybernetic implants I’d take it. Too bad the only thing we’ll get is higher rent, lower pay, and ads in the sky.
The only thing projected in the sky can only be the bat signal. That’s the rule
It’s never too early to be an eco-terrorist
This is the first time I’ve seen the original tweet without Johnny Silverhand
It’s way better without him. Take my hug 🤗 for enduring this cringe.
Full terrorist might be a bit much, but I wouldn’t be opposed to punching holes in packaging of the advertised products.
If the trend caught on at a large enough scale to just mildly vandalize space-billboard products, that shit would stop in a hurry.
…hell we should do that with regular billboards too - gimme my scenery back!
Billboards really ought to be illegal.
And now we have mega led tv billboards that flash their content blindingly in your eyes from miles away, yay!
you say terrorism bad then advise terrorism lol
@Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world, I propose a solution to this conundrum:
- Terrorizing bourgeoisie = good
- Terrorizing proletariat = bad
I like it. Sign me up.
exactly
Terrorism and vandalism are not the same thing.
so destruction of property for the purpose of political agitation is just as chill as spray painting the side of a rusted train? wow the world has changed
One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter. Calling the act of fighting back against corporations “terrorism” doesn’t make the act itself bad or wrong, nor does it dissuade anyone from carrying it out, it’s just virtue signalling to show everyone else which side of the fence you’re positioning yourself on. The wrong side.
oh silly I’m from lemmygrad, I am definitely on the side of terrorism. I just want the terms defined properly, because hiding your terms and aims behind vague descriptions is ill-advised and will lead to disaster. Do not desensitize political action, realize what it is, and agree with it.
Companies ≠ Government
The government is tied to corporations. The Government exists to carry out the will of the monopolies, and reign in the populace. Throwing billions of dollars to corrupt politicians to carry out their aims does not a democracy make.

I can play this game too. Oh so murdering people for the sake of a political agenda is just as chill as damaging property?
damaging property is nothing. Especially the property of the rich use to try to delude us
humans are a different matter, but if your existence relies on the exploitation of the earth, I think they’ve declared war against every other person alive. Politics is a reflection of human wills and goals, not some thing you snark at from your couch scrolling tiktok. Politics is every thought and idea of change and invention. Every murder is a political murder. If it is a man who beat his wife to death that is a reinforcement of patriarchy. If a driver falls asleep at the wheel and hits a biker, that is a result of capitalist overworking and insufficient bike infrastructure.
All of this is a direct result of capitalism, which the rich enforce the corrupt and aged economy with their wealth. These passive deaths are also murder, so should we just do nothing? Just wait for the same people who’ve enslaved the world to free us because we asked? You have morals, they would not think twice about killing everyone you know if it meant defending their wealth. Do not allow them to have all the power because of a false morality.
Did you reply to the wrong person?
no
Would that constitute terrorism? I thought that was just limited to political goals, not consumer shit.
If yes, then terrorist that shit up!
lets fuckin goooooooooooooooooooooooo
People are saying terrorism.
This sounds more like vandalism.
There’s quite a bit of difference.
Full terrorist might be a bit much
I disagree. A society that sells the night sky to private interest deserves to burn.
…on second thought… yeah.
I don’t understand the increasingly aggressive ads. When I see a company advertising heavily I get sketched out and assume they have subpar product.
If these are drones and someone does this irl I’m going to shoot them down
Drone-based sky projections/light shows typically use hundreds or thousands of them. Good luck.
So you’re saying we should use an EMP?
Well, if terrorism is your goal…
They’re drones, not people.
It would be vandalism and property destruction, not terrorism. Calm down, dude.
You seem to think an EMP wouldn’t have tremendous collateral damage. It’s a nuke for electronics, indiscriminate in targets.
Dude we’re going to be hard pressed to even get the range needed to take out part of the drone swarm, and you’re worried about collateral damage?
I’m sorry but you can no longer be a part of Project Mayhem.
I guess you could launch a rocket with an EMP on it, to get it closer. And hopefully not take down a plane by accident? Yeah this idea is dumb.
Someone could build an emp with a wave guide in their garage and just aim them at the drones
Just look at online forums and youtubers who are in the DIY electronics space
You could even make one from parts of a plasma globe
So what do you think is going on in the prime universe?
Harambe sires an offspring. Covid was contained, however significant changes in social structures happened so that cross species viruses have a tougher time evolving. Mitch McConnell shat himself on the senate floor, then proclaimed his love for flamin’ hot cheetoes, then passes away. Elon Musk takes a ride on Space X, it suffers a malfunction & he burns up on reentry. Russia and China start a war, but both armies are the equivalent of an Ikea designed tank. All offensive and defensive maneuvers are so bad there are literally thousands of scholars writing doctorate thesis on them. Beer cures cancer. Universal pay is implemented worldwide, Amazon goes bankrupt. Tipping culture in the US ends. Nestlé board of trustees and executive committee are rounded up and hunted for sport by Tankies…capitalists tune in to the reality based tv show and place enough bets to wipe out world debt. Argentina finally has a sound financial footing, a robust economy, and bright future producing most of the worlds green energy needs. World temperatures stabilize and start trending towards normal as most automobiles, private jets, tankers and ocean liners are either converted to green power or scrapped. People have a healthy relationship with social media.
…fuck
Back propagating simulations of other possible less utopian courses reality could have taken within which a bunch of people are complaining about how much things suck and wondering what is happening in the prime reality.
Trump won 2nd term and Russia took Ukraine in 3 weeks
What are you on?
is prime universe suppose to be the good universe or something?
The Prime Universe is a term in science fiction to determine the Main Universe. The universe that the story centers around is the “Prime Universe”, deviations from this are “Alternate Universes”
I’m claiming that because our world is so absurd in ways that would seem impossible if it wasn’t literally happening in front of us, we are obviously not the Prime Universe, as it makes no realistic since that Jan 6th could have happened without a swift military response, that Donald Trump could be President, that souls aren’t real, that we have so much proof for aliens yet no aliens, or that men like Elon Musk could actually be considered our “Best and brightest”… Making it transparent that we in fact, a bizarre “What-If” scenario
oh I thought prime universe means alternate universe as the math apostrophe symbol is pronounced prime and often denotes (mathematical) derivative
In this instance, think of it as “Short for Primary”
This is such an old repost I’m surprised it hasn’t happened yet
This is such a stupid idea on so many levels but mostly because it’s functionally impossible. The amount of satellites that would need to be launched in order to be able to form a visible image from the surface of the Earth would be prohibitively expensive and complicated to organise. They would all crash into each other within about 15 minutes - because orbits are inherently chaotic, and because of the ultra low altitude they’d have to maintain to make it remotely visible, they would burn up in the atmosphere almost instantly.
Basically no one with even a high school level education is actually proposing this.
This is basically just rage bate.
Wouldn’t they be more likely to use drones than satellites?
Yeah, and we already have drone lightshows
It would especially be effective in cities, with a high density of people. And the base cost would not be that large compared to normal advertising spots, which already go for a lot of money.
Basically, if it was legal, it would have already been done.
Who said anything about satellites? That looks more like bat-signal-style projections against the clouds
Could you project something on the moon?
Or write something on it with a laser!
This is basically just rage bate.
True, also since it’s expensive the company could have use that money to give extra wages in their employees but no they’re too greedy.
If they’re some sort of holograms they wouldn’t last a week. And I mean hackers making them into Friendly Windmills and the sort.
All the birds are dead in the future.
Finishing the job from 65 million years ago.
I think we need to root out these hidden dinosaurs once and for all.
Bird watching goes both ways.

I live in the city, so I never see stars anyway. I say bring on the Blade Runner vibes!
EDIT: Sorry if I offended anyone with a little joke. I’ll stop trying to be funny.
They should project the night sky into city skies. As long as it doesn’t add significantly to light pollution, I wouldn’t be suprised if that would be good for people’s mental health
i mean we could also just institute light pollution measures like many places worldwide already have, but i guess that’s not as cool
Or we could introduce more strict light pollution laws instead. Big Island has some of the most beautiful night skies and it’s because they basically have to mandate using sodium lights to keep the light pollution super low for the telescopes on Mauna Kea.
