This is the best summary I could come up with:

India’s External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi cited unspecified security threats “being faced by our high commission and consulates in Canada.”

Nijjar was working to organize an unofficial referendum among the Sikh diaspora on independence from India at the time of his killing.

The two countries have expelled diplomats this week, and India on Wednesday issued an updated travel advisory urging its citizens traveling in Canada and especially those studying in the North American country to be cautious because of “growing anti-India activities and politically condoned hate-crimes.”

Demands for an independent Sikh homeland, known as Khalistan, started as an insurgency in India’s Punjab state in the 1970s that was crushed in an Indian government crackdown that killed thousands.

It announced rewards of up to 1 million rupees ($16,230 Cdn) for information leading to the arrest of five insurgents, one of whom is believed to be based in neighbouring Pakistan.

The agency accused them of extorting money from businesses for a banned Sikh organization, the Babbar Khalsa International, and of targeted killings in India.

No tourist visas for China, suspending visa services in Canada. This is stupid. Please throw your political temper tantrum in a way that doesn’t hurt regular people.

The point of this sort of thing is to hurt regular people. Or rather, to say to some people, “You don’t count as regular people. We get to hurt you lots.”

Whats this got to do with China haven’t been paying attention. But china defiantly deserves to be totally internationally ostracised for the shit they are doing.

The beef with Canada has nothing to with China. It’s just a comment on the ridiculousness of Indian foreign policy.

I completely support ostracizing the Chinese government, but not regular Chinese ppl. I mean, they’re just trying to live their life man. Same as the rest of us.

Perhaps. But India is the one trying get Canada to do something. India has the bad visa policy. There is no braindrain to India. So, that change won’t work.

I think hurting the people creates a rally-around-the-flag effect. Instead Canadians tell their government to cede to Indian demands, they’ll tell the government to stick it harder to the Indians.
