O’Donnell ripped cable news networks for carrying the event live and called it “2016 all over again,” adding that outlets are making the “same mistakes” with their reporting as they did while covering Trump that election cycle.

He also criticized reporters for not asking follow-up questions and knocked networks for fact-checking only after Trump finished speaking.

O’Donnell also knocked networks for not covering Vice President Kamala Harris’ Michigan speech live after the Trump presser, noting that his network was doing Olympics coverage before bringing viewers the last few minutes of her remarks.

When you realize that almost all major networks are owned by or run by republicans, you’ll understand why we’re in the situation we’re in.

They worship money just the same as the GOP and their friends and only alight with the left when they can market it – see pride month.

That’s just it though. Many in the GOP don’t. They only view brown people as less deserving of it. And are often bigoted racist single issue voters who vote in ways to hurt themselves as long as minorities are hurt more. The ones who worship wealth aren’t even a majority. They are just outspoken.

Not only that, but since the fall of print journalism the amount of actual journalists has shrunken to the point where any new hires are just a byproduct of nepotism.

Want to work as a journalist at NPR? Well, you better have an ivy league education, be able to afford to do a 2 year internship, and it would help if your parents worked here or are significant donors.

I watched both the Trump conference and O’Donnell’s take live and, yeah, he has a point.

The feed I had, you couldn’t hear the reporters questions at all. So all you could hear was Trump and there was no way to know what the actual question was based on his answers.

But nobody follows up on ANY politician and it’s been that way for a couple of decades now.

The classic example I always cite is one that happens all the time:

“Well, we’re going to get rid of job-killing regulations.”

The logical follow up question would be:

“Can you cite an example of a regulation you’d get rid of and in what way it’s a job killer?”

But nobody ever asks that question.

The ONLY interview I’ve seen where the felon is asked hard and follow-up questions was at the black journalist panel.

Both woeful reporters and meek, sub-par debate moderators have - and will continue to - play into Trump’s hands perfectly.

O’Donnell often says things with such a confidence and certainty that I find troubling, but when he’s right he’s right.

Sometimes I’ll find myself watching msnbc coverage of some big event, where they have all their well-known anchors doing commentary, and whenever they cut to him for his opinion, he almost always talks in absolutes, like “this is what will happen, no question about it, period.” He’s often quite wrong. That’s not to say he’s necessarily a bad journalist, but I can’t stand listening to this guy’s predictions.

I do enjoy these rants of his though.

Yeah not a big Lawrence fan honestly. He dropped a good bit.

Now I actively avoid Morning Joke and O’Donnell for their mischaracterization of those calling for Biden to step down. Not that I listened to them much before…

Trump is a sensational topic, people even tune in to hate watch or hate read and the media make billions of it. Trump was the best thing that happened to media companies bottom line in a long time. They give him preferential treatment because it makes them richer.

I intentionally avoid every bit of Trump information I don’t need and some I do need I rely on comment sections or friends to point out. Don’t get me wrong I’m still guilty of only reading headlines on other stuff sometimes but for this asshole I at least have a reason.

You see it on Lemmy.world too. Mostly Leftist and yet the vast majority of article headlines posted mention Trump if he can in any way be related to it.

“The Dems announce their platform goals, Trump rages” type BS. Constantly.

Remember, It was the CEO of CBS that admitted that the endless coverage of Trump and giving him a free platform to spew his BS is absolutely awful for the American people and American democracy but they’re going to keep doing it anyway because of how profitable it is.

O’Donnell may be right, but he was part of the problem in the first place. He was just as complicit as everybody else in giving him endless free coverage because it was generating clicks and/or revenue for them. He has gladly hung onto and reported on every word Trump said just like the rest of them, even when what he was saying wasn’t even newsworthy and just a repeat of his usual mindless drivel.

They’re all guilty of it. It’s not just the Sean Hannitys and Tucker Carlsons. Lawrence O’Donnell, Rachel Maddow, and the like have done the exact same thing on the left, and people like David Pakman and Brian Tyler Cohen have done the same on the independent scene. They have all built their brands off of the back of Donald Trump in some way, shape, or form and they all share the blame for the preferential treatment he gets. They’ve been the ones giving it to him since 2015 in the first place.
