An idling gas engine may be annoyingly loud, but that’s the price you pay for having WAY less torque available at a standstill.

10 second refueling for my EV. I just plug it in when I get home and it’s full when I get up in the morning. I don’t have to go stop at a gas station at random times when I realize the tank is almost empty. And 250+ miles is far more than I ever drive on an average day, so that overnight charge is more than enough.

When I do occasionally drive further I’m more than happy to take a 20 minute driving break while fast charging in order to hit a bathroom, grab a bite to eat, etc.

1 trip a year taking an extra hour is not going to happen for most families, much less my personal travel. You are deluding yourself thinking most people are okay with spending 20 minutes at a charger (assuming there’s no wait). You can’t handwave it away.

I took a 6 hour trip with my mom, sis and her kids halfway across the country to hit the beaches earlier this month.

I have a diesel car, I could have done the trip both way without stopping at a gas station. I still stopped 20 minutes both ways for a coffee and snacks and stretching my legs.

The charge time is an absolute non issue.

Vast majority of people repeat the propaganda they hear without thinking about it.

I also thought that way, and then spent 5 minutes thinking about it.

Gas stations attached mechanic shops and then convenience stores even though you don’t spend a lot of time refueling.

Charging centers simply need to do the same. Or restaurants etc need to invest in charging stations.

If you go on a long trip and need to charge, and you can spend that time also meeting your personal needs for food and bathroom? By the time you finish a meal at the attached full service restaurant both your car and passengers will be fully refueled.

Even though I don’t personally own an EV, just a hybrid, that much became obvious as soon as my local grocery added a couple charging spots. Only a couple, but it’s so obvious the answer to long charging times is simply to have something else to do.

In France on the highways every twoish hours of driving we have a full service stations with gas, small restaurants/coffee shops, kids playgrounds etc.

I’m not sure but I believe it’s a legal requirement.

The one we stopped at for my last trip even had a small gym.
