AUSTIN, Texas – Leaked video shows Hood County Constable Scott London, Hood County GOP Chair Steve Biggers and Hood County GOP Chair candidate Greg Harrell attending a meeting held by Abolish Abortion Texas (AATX) where they supported the death penalty for women who seek abortions or use IVF, including pregnant minors. London and Harrel have also signed onto a pledge from the same group vowing to abolish all circumstances of abortion care in Texas.

They want the death penalty? I can’t with these people, I thought the whole point of banning abortion was that “every life is sacred”.

Do they ever get tired of being so hypocritical?

No, this has always been about control. They get to decide who lives and who dies, not women, which is why the pro-life types are always also pro death penalty.

The whole point was to punish sexually promiscuous women.

Every life is sacred is just the spin.

Every unborn life is sacred. Every actual born human can go fuck themselves.

        punish sexually promiscuous women.

So then where does all this whinging about IVF enter into it? How dare you get pregnant by… not… having… sex?

I realize my problem here is that I’m attempting to apply logic where none actually exists. But come on.

Not to mention: that’s punishing people who are specifically, deliberately TRYING to become parents. They’re probably among the LEAST likely to get abortions.

There isn’t any logic. The cruelty is the point.

This is really a Catholic interpretation and those in TX are certainly in the Evangelical camp. They don’t really think in terms of original sin.

They do, but they also think that loudly affirming your love for Jesus and then living according to their rules solves it. So it doesn’t come up until you refuse them.

Catholics think living a generally good life is enough and that there’s forgiveness for most things as long as you remain active in the church, go to confession, and do your penance.

In my experience, there’s generally little difference between an Evangelical and a Sovereign Citizen. They both speak certain magic words that means they don’t have to face any consequences; they believe that they have all of the rights of doing so but none of the responsibilities.

Not even promiscuous, really. Any woman who wants to have sex and also wants to avoid pregnancy is on their shit list. Doesn’t matter if she’s with one person for 20 years. Could even be married. Get an abortion, go to jail, oh wait no, the friggin electric chair.

The unborn” are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus, but actually dislike people who breathe. Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn.

I don’t know why this is news to anyone. Do we not teach history any more? They go for the heaviest available sentences and then sit in judgement of women depending on their social and political status. But they’ll pretend it’s based on some objective standard. So rich conservative women get the “poor girl had a miscarriage” treatment and poor minorities get the heaviest penalty possible for maliciously killing babies.

This is not new, this is not the first time religious conservatives have done this.
