Why not just do both? We don’t even have to stop there - we could stop the Uyghur genocide, free Tibet, leave Taiwan alone, and stop the bullshit in the Spratley Islands while we’re at it.

Oh - tankie logic - I’ll get the finger paint.

Ready? I’ll take it slow - It’s bad to do some things - like genocide or ending democracy - and those things are bad whether you’re the US, China, or a bootlicking dipshit that’s incapable of defining communism when handed a dictionary.

      Simple stuff.

Edit: holy fuck I was not wrong on the tankie piece - their most recent comment was a massive rant about Tiananmen square.

Sure, fella, sure. But at least I can talk about what my country did wrong. Your opinion of the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre?

China actively works to suppress people talking about Tiananmen square - that’s a deeply stupid reach to attempt.

Massacres are bad - don’t make me get the finger paint again.

Yes, it’s stupid to ban speech about it and it’s stupid (not to mention dishonest) to pretend I’m unwilling to call out my country’s atrocities considering the consequences for the talking about Tiananmen square in China.

Dang, China must be doing well if the last bad thing they did was about 35 years ago. You’re free to talk about all the bad things your country did much more recently so I guess that’s better. You have no say in whether your country can and can’t do bad things, but you can talk about it. That’s very nice!

Now you’re getting it, it is very nice! We can even protest and stuff. And we won’t end up in jail! Seriously, if you love it so much, move to China/Russia/other-wannabe-communist-shithole and enjoy!

And no, the last bad thing they did isn’t 35 years ago, but you know that as well, don’t you, little troll?

I just find it funny that people trot out the 1989 tiananmen square massacre over and over again like it’s some kind of gotcha. Protest all you want, but when protesting doesn’t do shit, it’s not really worth anything. Tell me how all the protests and speaking out against the Iraq war stopped the US from invading Iraq and staying there to this day. Tell me how all the protests against the US support of israel carrying out genocide is doing anything to change that. If you’re allowed to protest, it’s because your protests change nothing.

I love how you just agree with all the bad shit China does and say it’s actually good. FYI, I’m not from the US and while I think that USA is definitely a better place to be than China is, it’s not like it’s in my top 10 best countries to live or something.

I never said I agreed with China, just pointing out that you should examine your freedoms and what they really mean. I also thought it was silly how the tiananmen square massacre gets brought up endlessly like it’s some sort of trump card. Finally, I had a feeling you’re not from the US, but I used the US as an example since it’s often boasted about as the prime example of a “free country”.

Except they’re not doing well - they continue to aggressively suppress speech about Tiananmen square 35 years later, they’re genociding the Uyghurs, erasing Tibet, suppressing Hong Kong, preparing to annex Taiwan, and pulling some transparent bullshit in the Spratley Islands to name just a few.

…but you know your comment was dishonest - you don’t need me to point out how obviously full of shit you are.

There is nothing inherent in that type of work that would serve to create these conditions, the reason we outsource this labor is easy, you gladly buy stuff made with slave work, corporations want the cheapest production, and these nations are more than happy to destroy their own populace, because shocker, they are just imperialist state capitalists in the case of China/North Korea.

So, no, the fact that they need suicide safety nets is 100% a China issue.

        1989 Tiananmen Square massacre

If the incident 32 years ago has any positive effect, that is, it has inoculated the Chinese people with a political vaccine, helping us acquire immunity from being seriously misled. China underwent a “color revolution,” but wasn’t brought down by it. The leadership of the Communist Party of China has saved the fate of the nation at a critical juncture.

China was the earliest among socialist countries to initiate reforms. Chinese society at that time lacked experience and some intellectuals began to blindly follow Western values, with a group even advocating a thorough Westernization as the ultimate goal of the reforms. Social turbulence took place in such a context and went to extreme under the inducement and manipulation of some political forces

Changes in the world geopolitical landscape in the late 1980s and early 1990s led to a series of consequences. The socialist camp of the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe disintegrated in 1991 but China stood steadily. The “color revolution” was aborted in China, and the result became a watershed where China and former socialist countries in Eastern Europe embarked on different development paths.

More than three decades have passed by. Facts speak louder than words. China has embarked on a socialist path with Chinese characteristics and made remarkable progress that amazed the world. It leapfrogged to the world’s second biggest economy with a per capita GDP of over $10,000, from a country that only ranked eighth in the world in terms of GDP and had a per capita GDP of only more than $400. The urban middle classes are rising in China. All cities, villages and people’s livelihood have taken on a completely new look and absolute poverty has been eliminated. While at the same time, the world is full of chaos, with “color revolutions” destroying many countries. All this has made Chinese people see clearly that the path China has chosen is correct.

The Chinese people have the most say about this country and to define what the Tiananmen Square means. The Square nowadays is packed with visitors throughout the year. The flag-raising ceremony held here every day undoubtedly is the one that has attracted the most audiences in the world. The ceremony on October 1, the National Day, is particularly grand, and often attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators.

Tiananmen Square embodies the Chinese people’s confidence and pride in the politics of the country, and it is a symbol of China’s unity as well as the country’s independence and increasing prosperity. The Chinese public’s understanding of the incident 32 years ago has undergone a fundamental change. We laugh at those posturing “commemorative” activities and political stunts orchestrated by outside forces.

Tsk, tsk, tsk, your social credit just went down because you didn’t deny it happened as Jinping the Pooh requires you to. Well, I hope China enjoys its downhill ride as they’re currently finding out that you can’t overcome everything just by having way too many people to throw on it. Especially since the population is in decline. (For the record, I know you’re not a resident of China, you can stop cosplaying).

Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.

          George Orwell, 1984

Honestly frightening that you trumpet this as a good thing. All our governments fucking suck in their own ways, and much as I love living in the US, I’m not ashamed to acknowledge serious mistakes made in the past and present. Denial gets us nowhere.

Tankie obsession with color revolutions, Meanwhile they back genocidal imperialist regimes with a penchant for straight-up butchering entire ethnic groups and anyone left of fucking Hitler, BUT because (and this is extra double funny/ironic) the Cold War era propaganda in the US depicted them as “left wing communists” they support them, because imperialism means America or something that retarded.
