I don’t buy anything that doesn’t need an internet connection or doesn’t have a FOSS alternative, which is almost nothing these days.
I think that it’s partly that it’s hard for Joe Consumer to evaluate the impact of all these.
Maybe start a new certification agency that ensures that a long list of issues like this are addressed, then make sure that one only buys products with that certification. Then you just need the expertise at the agency.
