minus-square@GlitzyArmrest@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglish4•1 year agoI sure hope there isn’t a rm -rf floating around in there somewhere… kind of like a certain past incident with major gaming client.

minus-squareRikudou_SageAlinkEnglish7•1 year agoIn the Steam Linux client, there was this line: rm -rf "$STEAMROOT/"*. If the variable $STEAMROOT isn’t defined (or is an empty string), it basically runs rm -rf "/"*, which means delete all subfolders of /.

minus-square@Wbbl@feddit.delinkfedilinkEnglish3•1 year agoA good tip in itself, but you can also look at the source and feel good or bad about it. I didn’t expect so many downvotes https://github.com/hwdsl2/setup-ipsec-vpn
minus-square@BlueBockser@programming.devlinkfedilinkEnglish0•1 year agoTbf, a lot of applications and tools provide installation scripts in lieu of more elaborate manual setup. Doesn’t make it safer, but if you want to install something, you have to trust the source with shell access at some point anyway.
