New Orleans reminds me of cities in 3rd world countries I have visitied. It has some cool history, music, and architecture, but it feels dangerous in a lot of parts. I heard a lot of gunshots in my short stay there. Also, like you said, it stinks.

I’ve had a great time every time I’ve gone to NO. Such a fun city.
Absolutely. It’s so lively there and with all the people around at all times of the night, I never felt unsafe. Just people out having a good time
