In the brightly lit corridors of the MRI unit, Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus shows us three small stashes of Kalashnikovs, ammunition and bullet-proof vests - he says they have found around 15 guns in all, along with some grenades.
The laptops, he says, contain photos and videos of hostages, taken after their kidnap to Gaza. There is also recently released footage, shared by Israeli police, of their interrogations of Hamas fighters arrested after the October attacks. The BBC was not shown what was on the laptops.
Israeli reports are showing images of the laptop open with images of a hostage - with footage attributed to Fox News (the other international news outlet who were escorted through Al-Shifa).
EDIT: the images appear to be from before October 7th per Times of Israel.
Wasn’t it just last week everyone was saying journalists embedded with religious extremists who intend to commit atrocities are complicit in any acts they chronicle? What changed?
I also don’t want to hear a peep from Republicans about 15 guns being a lot when that’s just how many they claim any responsible sportsman might need to harvest enough venison and fowl to feed his family during the long Mississippi winters.
Nothing? Their opinion is still fucking dumb. It was last week, it was before that, and it will continue to be.
The BBC have been fairly cynical in their reporting on Israel throughout this conflict while still remaining impartial. They’ve been running a ‘verify’ segment, the most recent of which specifically questioned the claim of whether their were tunnels over the hospital.
Implying they are complicit is a pointless attempt to further divide the general public on a hot button topic.
I have 40 guns. Does it really matter how many? The “how many” thing doesn’t come up in any other context. Whether I’m going on a rampage or shooting my wife, 1 or 2 will get the job done.
And no I don’t hunt, rarely conceal carry and feel that guns, while not magical protection talismans, are better than nothing for self-defense. But mostly I just like gunsmithing and shooting. And yes, I have many other thoughts in other lemmy posts should anyone want to have a look.
So how about you stop putting words in our mouths? Hell, I vote straight ticket D and will do so for the remainder of my life.
Sorry to go off OP, I’m just sick of being stuffed in a box that doesn’t fit.
(And of those 40; 5 are black powder, 5 are in pieces, or are small caliber handguns, or are single-shot shotguns and various flavors of .22. Not the sorts of things anyone is clamoring to ban.)
I was just being a smart ass there. Don’t take it the wrong way. I realize there’s a huge difference between a sane, responsible gun owner and Hamas hiding a weapons cache at a hospital in a war zone.
Part of what I was being flippant about is just that they were hyping up finding 15 guns as if it was a major stash. I live in Louisiana. Some of my relatives have 15 guns.
So since then shall we believe everything IDF is saying? Were there any independent confirmation that those guns were really being stored there? Because I didn’t see/read anything on the matter.
IDF is under a lot of pressure and not being able to justify their Al Shifa hospital raid would be disastrous for them. Plus it is not like they were always honest and transparent with the general public.
Guns are expensive. The terrorists are likely taking them when they flee. Also to cover all the tracks. Some equipment was forgotten.
You need to explain why a hospital needs hand grenates. This is not something you would just store in a locker after taking it away from people.
Also you left out “journalists who take pictures and don’t help injured people”. It’s still controversial, but it’s essential to understand it correctly.
