Has there been a horror movie scene where the killer jams an electronic meat thermometer into somebody and the camera zooms in on the readout and it's 98.6? Because I think this would be a natural.

Not a thermometer, but there’s something similar in the movie Sleepaway Camp… but I think it’s a curling iron iirc…. And you don’t want that inside you
