Whoever OKed that higher in the command chain is done making decisions. If he isn’t court marshaled over it, this is a damn tragedy that was 100% avoidable.
What I don’t understand is shouldn’t the actual veterans of the 128th Mountain Div have realized what a horrible idea this was, and maybe arrested the guy as a suspected Russian spy or something?

this has happened to the Russians, too. Is this in their military culture? was it a set up? bad Intel? really stupid decision to allow that to happen.
