    Unfortunately, until and unless peertube can pay creators (so basically never), it will only ever see use by foss enthusiasts, and even then only hobbyists will use it as their primary platform. For someone making a career out of it, youtube is pretty much the only real option at the moment.

      Kinda, but Patreon exists and many of youtubers already get lots of money through it.

      I disagree. I believe that the problem is that if you upload videos there they don’t automatically get a few views. Peertube basically doesn’t have an audience.

      Earning money with Youtube already is very hard, you need large amount of viewers and it’s not enough so many youtubers resort to adverts and product placement within their videos.

      Peertube actually has a button that creators can activate. If a user presses it they will see a popup with markdown formatted text where the creator can put their affiliate links, patreon, paypal and whatever they like. I think it’s a very neat solution, since it’s unobtrusive for the user and very flexible for the creator.
