U.S. Federal Communications Commission chair Jessica Rosenworcel plans to begin an effort to reinstate landmark net neutrality rules rescinded under then-President Donald Trump, sources briefed on the matter said Monday.

The move comes after Democrats took majority control of the five-member FCC on Monday for the first time since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021 when new FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez was sworn in.

The FCC is set to take an initial vote on the net neutrality proposal in October, the sources added.

If some websites seem to load significantly faster than others now (youtube, reddit, facebook), it’s because ISPs can throttle or prioritise traffic to certain websites and they do not have to report this information to their customers.

Oh yeah boi look at our data speed! (video capped at 480p expected speed)

Seriously, does anyone have a way I can keep my isp from knowing I’m streaming video so I can actually do that??

VPN is great and a solution but it can also be a hassle in many configurations.

And really there is nothing stopping them from throttling secure traffic unless you buy a business plan or whatever they come up with.

I hope it can be reinstated because allowing ISPs to throttle various traffic gives absolutely no benefit to the end user.
