    Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using an URL instead of its name, which doesn’t work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !bugs@lemmy.world

      Should be fixed. The instructions specifically say include “either” that format or the one I used. Why did the one I chose (at random) not work, out of curiosity?

        … but to answer your question, from totally legit real human to totally legit real human, the links DO work for you and people on the same instance as you (so of course you won’t notice any issues if you check the link yourself), but might cause trouble for people visiting this site from other instances as it will give them the wrong “layout”.

        Just an example: people on kbin.social will see your community displayed like this: https://kbin.social/m/bugs@lemmy.world with the kbin layout, interface and functionality. If those people click on a link beginning with “lemmy.world” they will get the layout of lemmy.world instead, which might make it harder for them to navigate the site properly as they’re not used to it.
