Lemmy is populated by far left Americans who were banned from Reddit for extremism. Strict ideological conformity is required or you’ll get actual death threats. Don’t go there unless you want violent communist revolution and hate discussing interesting ideas.

Because it is? If private ownership of everything is the capitalist goal, aka far right, then people owning everything is obviously its exact opposite, aka far left.

We’re currently somewhere in the middle, leaning towards right. Some places further than others.

That’s only one part of it. Right to protest, for example, is considered leftist, but it doesn’t exist in communism. It’s not black and white, but if I had to describe communism as left or right, definitely right due to social freedoms. I’m glad I’m not obligated to take a pregnancy test before getting a job and I don’t think that counts as a leftist idea at all.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think communism says anything about a right to protest. You’re thinking of authoritarianism which is a different category.

I know, that’s why I said it’s not all black and white. authoritarianism happens when a small group of people hold a lot of power, which can happen regardless of economic system, but it is tied to extremism and no extreme is good. We only got the right to protest after the fall of communism.
