There are two components of the modern Western system, capitalism and liberalism. They are both flawed and breaking systems. If you’re a democratic socialist, you have already concluded that capitalism is no good. However, liberalism is also a flawed, broke system. This extends beyond that liberalism in the way capitalism justifies itself. It is liberal democracy, an archaic system rooted in the same flaws as capitalism. If you take over or build liberal democracy with socialism, your endeavor will fail and probably become something like capitalism. You must change more than the words used and the goals of accountants; you must change how people relate to power.

I can’t for the life of me figure out how you’d even separate liberalism and capitalism. They are almost synonyms. The two have gone hand in hand for almost 400 years.

That’s my point; democratic socialism is attempting to do that, which is doomed.
