  • I’ve been using this app with one other person for shared tracking. we’ve been satisfied with the (lack of) battery drain, which was my main concern about the app (not for anything specifically about Paralino). so far, no issues or qualms. will be nice when it no longer relies on Google Services on Android.

I only have location services enabled under certain conditions when away from the house, but it seems to handle the off / on of this service just fine without having to restart the app or anything. unsurprisingly, it also let’s me view the other’s location even if my own location is disabled at the moment. we have ours sharing location, battery percentage, and network type from each device.

paid features let you add more connections to share locations with, create additional groups, and other small QoL things like being able to attempt a forced refresh of the other person’s location, etc.

  • all fair! in my opinion, principles or underlying concepts that make lemmy desirable to a large set of its users are shared with something like “piracy” as a whole. though, arguably there are different offenses of pirating things. for example, things like books and other knowledge resources can be justified easier in some ways than something like that a “today’s hot comedy” series. all to say, that’d be my thoughts on why digital shared ownership is likely a commonly accepted thing here.

sort of apart from the original “boycott” point, there’s also this layer of Big <Whatever> involved in how much of our available content is stored / accessed / mediated. on the seas, you’re resulting moreso in boycotting that Big <Whatever> layer that likely has their stinky mits too far and too deep for what they can really deserve credit for anyway. other methods could be used to support the direct producer of content, if intended, while continuing to boycott the Big <Whatever> that enforces and forces itself between due to convenience, research, pull, etc.

you’re not alone in this angle or feeling this way, for sure. as it should be! we’re also splitting it at a fairly high-above-ground generalized view, and could both very well be imagining example cases supporting our mindset that happen to live far apart on the spectrum of what this can be pertaining to. there’s room to be against it, in favor of it, or anywhere in between based on contexts. I don’t know why I’m rambling. thanks for responding with more input! lol :)

  • however, when it comes to sailing seas, you share product without it taking any from your own pool in a way that causes it to ever leave your pool. so, then one consumption can split into two consumptions, both able to continue existing and being consumed, while further multiplying more. the first consumer could be the last direct consumer from the boycotted producer, while future consumers can still benefit from or otherwise put to use the product provided something back to us.

in my opinion, this concept of eternal growth and multiplying without being forced by laws of reality for the original sources to ever diminish, makes this different than other scenarios like keeping a second-hand market interest in something while boycotting the main source / producer.

I’ve somewhat recently become familiar with the term “autistic burnout” myself. Can you share some more with regards to your statement - “only treating the cause will work.”

I’m sure that the cause may be different from person to person, but do you have any insights towards determining what that cause is? I am, and have been, in what feels like an eternal loop of feeling or being labeled as anxious, depressed, various ADHD symptoms, etc. and struggle more and more to determine what’s real, what’s a clouded effect of something different, and so on.

all to say, I’m stuck somewhere in this knotted ball of yarn and dont even know which thread is the real end to start pulling on, knotting it up even worse.

  • an alternative to MS (or some other third-party) cloud doesn’t have to be “personal” devices, though. company-specific handling requirements can still be achieved via self-hosted network shares containing all user-saved data, which still aids in the local storage replacement issue that you’re having. but for many companies and spaces, MS cloud or whatever third-party could be just fine, and this will of course push some of those folks that direction nicely
