Kinda fucked up that when coming up with a SciFi dystopia the worst we can think of is the Nestlé-buck.

Garbagio@lemmy.zipto News@lemmy.world•Northwestern students blocked from enrollment after refusing controversial antisemitism training8·3 days agoIdk. I’d never tell someone not to stand for good things. I guess my biggest gripe is that we lionize people who do what they should and yet have no support systems for people who pay the price for doing so, and the people doing the right thing are the people with the most future to lose.
Garbagio@lemmy.zipto News@lemmy.world•Northwestern students blocked from enrollment after refusing controversial antisemitism training93·3 days agoIdk. Look, fuck Israel, and I’m proud of these kids for standing up and saying no. But I also have to be true to my life experiences. Either northwestern caves, and I fucking hope they do (please email ug-admission@northwestern.edu, call 847-491-7271, anything to actively pressure them), or these kids are in for a world of shit. Non-college-educated jobs are fucking dystopian. I went to school in my early 30s, and even if I can argue for better working conditions for ALL workers, Jesus Christ my jobs before going back were in retrospect fucking insanely cruel and demeaning. And I promise you, one day protesting this genocide will be like remote work: Allowed and celebrated in white collar jobs, while a fucking joke elsewhere. I get that we all should be willing to give anything to stand up for what’s right. It just always breaks my heart when that cost is borne by kids.
Jokes on you, they’re the same person

Just adding some clarity for anyone who comes by. Just like any other community, you have Rust, Rust devs, the Rust dev community, the Rust dev community social media pages, and then the public perception of those social media pages, typically driven by clickbait “articles” about errant Reddit posts. There was a fair bit of hype at one point for Rust, and given its similar applications as C++, hype around “converting” people. This became a meme a decade ago, which like all memes just became tired thought-terminating slop. Which is how it ended up with Phoronix, but still.
I mean the hope is that social good drives capital. It doesn’t, but still.
Garbagio@lemmy.zipto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•should I apologize to this friendly manager I had an argument with?8·3 days agoAgreed. Look, I’m all for the dictatorship of the proletariat; that being said, so many fellow leftists think class analysis is some moral framework rather than a systemic analysis of socioeconomic inequities. It’s not. Some prole working their job to survive only to last long enough or perform good enough to get promoted doesn’t make them a villain. Yes, you still have jobs, promotions, and managers under socialism. You just also get a say in those systems.
xcept cops, fuck cops.

No, Tylenol doesn’t cause autism, but things being older than other things does not mean anything with regards to increased risk.
Its just such a stupid argument on its face. We wouldn’t argue that tribalism gave us agriculture, or that somehow feudalism is good because of windmills. As a society we have ideas, we direct resources to those ideas, and then we reap the benefits of those ideas. Capitalism is simply a more effective driver of resources than the systems before. But mathematically driven aristocracy is still aristocracy.
