“We have seen too many stories of citizens being pulled out of airport lines, and being fingerprinted and deported, as if they were criminals. Citizens being kidnapped to illegal detention by ICE…this is not the actions of a Democratic nation,” said Charlie Angus, leader of Canada’s New Democratic Party.
While the exact number of travelers from Europe and Canada who have been detained or deported by U.S. immigration authorities remains unknown, several cases have made headlines. German tourist Lucas Sielaff was detained for 16 days after returning from a trip to Mexico. “Nobody is safe there anymore to come to America as a tourist,” said Sielaff, who was on a 90-day U.S. tourist permit and engaged to an American citizen.

Charlie Angus is a member of the Canada NDP party, but not the leader. The leader of the NDP is Jasmeet Singh. Charlie is the MP for the riding of Timmons - James Bay.
It is important for news outlets to offer accurate information if they want to be taken seriously…
You call your municipalities ridings? Sounds cool NGL
In Canada a municipality is something else - a town or township, or a small region, governed by a municipal government (council). A riding is an electoral district in a federal or provincial election.
The Netherlands also tightened their warning for citizens traveling to the us as of today.
Just returned from the US as a European, I was very nervous when entering and exiting.
Were there any atrocities, besides the usual tirades of international travel?
Glad you made it out of our fascist hellhole intact!
I’m from the US setting things in motion to move out. Is this going to start affecting my ability to get to other countries? Like if there is a travel
warningadvisory for coming here maybe other countries don’t want me traveling to them either? If so how much time you all think I have? I have stuff set in motion for 4-6 months from now but I’m worried I’m going to have to bail early which would hose my finances…No ones knows this I guess. As a European, I wouldn’t expect the EU countries to limit travels from U.S. citizens, though. There is no reason imho.
(Just a remark: These are travel advisories, not warnings. That’s to inform people on a different situation, but it doesn’t say that people shouldn’t travel to the U.S. I don’t want to downplay this, but it is important to note that it makes a difference.)
