This is how I feel about smart watches. I just want something to get notifications on, find my phone when I set it down somewhere stupid, and control my music. I don’t need it to have apps or a thousand useless features that cause the battery to only last a day or two.

The garmin instinct has been the closest I’ve gotten, but I wish it wasn’t so ‘sports watch’ looking.

I have no experience with it myself but apparently Pinetime is a 30 buck watch that you can install a custom OS on / can customize your features.

if it has a screen it will play bad apple and i will port all of my shit to it.
I’m considering switching to mi band 7/some other ZeppOS device (maybe Amazfit?) from my Huawei band
      (zepp has js mini-apps)

Then you find out those “superior” multi thousands of dollars watches require regular service and tuning.

Literally a pointless pit for people with more money than they know what to do with to dump it in.

No one sane is arguing that an expensive mechanical watch is better at telling the time than a cheap quartz watch. If you want accuracy, don’t buy a rolex.

Personally, I think a fancy watch is more comparable to buying an art piece. A painting is not “superior” just because it portraits its subject with more accuracy. Similarly, a watch is not “superior” if it tells the time with more accuracy.

I wear a watch because I like the watch. I like a mechanical watch with an open back so I can look at the gears turning inside. I like the attention to detail in the design. I like how the little hour indicators are polished to a mirror finish. For me, it is a piece of jewelry, that also tells the time.

They actually go up in value though. Go look at Rolex Submariners on eBay, the old ones cost more than the new ones. They’re also very beautiful.

Good Lord. It’s fashion, and nearly all of them retain value and can be resold.

I know it’s not cool like building a 4k USD computer with flashy lights but cut them a break.

Interestingly, this is one of the reasons video chatting exists at all. It was invented originally to watch a coffee pot in a different room.

Hm. This seems to belong in the other meme post about face timing your pot on the stove, not this one which is showing how a frog watch is superior to a Rolex. Or my client has a really weird bug.

If you noticed this why didn’t you just post in the FaceTime thread about frog watch and restore balance? You’re really dropping the ball here, Flounder.

I only just noticed this. I have no idea how it replied to the wrong thread. I’ve never even seen the meme here before…
