You used to have to lick both before stamps became like stickers.
I can remember the flavor vividly. Like a lightly sweet highly artificial mint.
You got the name brand, then. While I remember that flavor, most of those i licked through my life didn’t have such a pleasant aftertaste.
Stamps used to have the same tasty lickable glue that envelopes have. They also used to lose their value over time to inflation. Now they come as stickers and you never have to worry about them devaluing.
You lick the envelope to close it, not to glue the stamp.
