“In years to come, I believe people will be asking how it was that government walked by on the other side when thousands of children were suffering abject deprivation, and failed to support them in their hours of need,” he said.

He described the poverty he had witnessed in his home town of Kirkcaldy, where 70% of children were in poverty in some neighbourhoods, as the worst he had seen in his lifetime.

“In 2010, we were helping 100 children at Christmas [through charity schemes]. Last Christmas, it was 1,800,” he said.

Broon has to stop getting air time. Britain literally voted for this time and time again. Scotland had a chance to change course ten years ago, and he was instrumental in stopping this. This is happening in his backyard because of him, and until he owns his failings he can shut right up

When the messager doesn’t say ‘I advocated for all of this’ then he just needs to shut it

You seem to be conflating support of otherwise for Scottish Independence with a criticism of Tory Westminster policies. Brown believes in the Power of the Union, he also believes that the Tories’ Westminster policies are execrable. There is no inconsistency here.

Really? You don’t see how indy is related to the Tories? He’s a total hypocrite and is responsible for the mess in his own backyard

Certaintly the Tories mismanagement of the economy and social issues boosted support for independence - but beyond that, no - you’re going to have to educate me.
