Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer suggested that President Biden should talk about abortion more so people know he is a president who is “fighting” for the right to an abortion.

Asked by CBS News “Face the Nation” anchor Margaret Brennan if Biden, who is of Catholic faith, needs to talk about abortion more, Whitmer said, “I think it would be good if he did.”

“I know that one tenet of his belief system is that women and only women at — with their families and — and health care professionals are the ones who know what decision is right for them,” said Whitmer, co-chair for Biden’s reelection campaign. “And that he is fighting and going to continue to fight to make sure that that is squarely the ability … [of] an American woman to make that decision.”

Brennan then asked if Biden needs to be the messenger on that more, to which Whitmer said, “I don’t think it would hurt.”

      She might be wrong.

What would Biden say about abortion? Would he equivocate? Ramble? Would he misspeak, or accidentally say the quiet part out loud? Would it come across as pandering?

I’d like to see more leadership from Biden on abortion, too, but that’s partly because I am not convinced he’s entirely on the right side of the issue.

We should still vote for him, because the alternative is unequivocally a disaster. But maybe he doesn’t lead on this issue because he isn’t out front on this issue. And talking about it more might reveal that he isn’t the staunch reproductive rights advocate we need him to be.

Edit to add, downvotes without replies or counterpoints will be ignored.

She wants him to talk about it as it becomes a bigger election topic. All the things you say are risks are bigger risks for Trump, who likely has paid for abortions, yet helped to nan them.

I’d like that, too, but it’s a significant wedge issue, and I’m not convinced that Biden would win support with his statements on abortion.

Trump supporters oppose abortion. Trump supporters support him even though he’s paid women to abort pregnancies he sired. There’s no political risk to anything Trump says.

Yes, many die hard trump supporters oppose abortion. However trump has flip flopped in the past and made it a wedge issue for Democrats favour instead of Republicans. Most women oppose the reversal of roe. It’s why the Dems won so many in recent elections. The dog caught the car and smacked its head into the wheel, metaphorically speaking.

Trump alienates supporters all the time. It’s how he lost. He energies the hateful, but the more he affects people in general with his policies the more support he loses. Half of nikk Haley supporters will vote Biden over trump in some studies. That’s huge.

Trump is divisive. Moving more people into the question him or disagree with him category is better overall. Also, improving abortion access should be an election issue. It’s affecting people now.
